Moving to Portugal – update from KDN

It’s been a year – where the hell did that time go!

At the behest of “he who must be obeyed” (aka Keef) I am penning a few words on the experience.

As Swiss Toni might say “it was very much like making love to a beautiful woman” –  approached with some trepidation but with happy ending.

Summoning up my inner Magellan I launched into the unfamiliar and choppy waters of Portuguese bureaucracy. The Portuguese officials are friendly, helpful  with the language barrier  – dare I say more so than your average Spanish official who seemed to delight in the discomfort of english-only speaking expats ( I was going to use “schadenfreude” but some of you might think that’s a new German lager). Anyway, Portuguese residency achieved (despite the frustrations of Brexit) and British driving licence secured without the need for a test/exam.

There is Walking Football, padel, golf, tennis, expat clubs and everything else you need to maintain with gusto the illusion that you’re still living in your home country.  I have yet to plunge into such activities.

Million euro question: has it been worthwhile?

Verdict: the jury is still out
