The latest in the series features John Wilson
‘I’ve been prompted by Keith to contribute to this feature having been on the missing list since last year.
I started playing walking football with Preston North End March 2015.
I joined WFSpain with Adam Chandler June 2017 at Elviria and we progressed to Benalmadena and Finca with Brian G. Back in the UK I played at Poolfoot with Fleetwood Flyers and also AFC Fylde Coasters, played in many tournaments, had many fantastic experiences playing footy at our age never thought it would be possible again after our 20s, promised wife I’d consider retiring at 75 my last game was at Finca end of last year, some of you will know I’ve had eye surgery but now I’m registered blind although I have limited vision and can still see a pass, having put a couple of goals past Colin the Manc he said I don’t believe you’re blind. Lol.
I was smashed in the face with a toe ender from close range although I did carry on playing, got home face bruised black and blue it was then I decided to quit I could have lost all vision, I miss playing and the camaraderie not to mention a few drinks after, I was fortunate to have guys pick me up and give me a lift to the venues, thanks to Adam C, Adam K, Brian G, Jim K, Chris R (RIP) Mark G.
Have some fantastic memories playing with WFS.
Big thanks to Keith and Geoff holding it all together during a difficult period.
I’m still admin for @WFSpain on Twitter, I would like to pass on admin to a regular member. Please contact me if you want it. I’m always tempted to go play again, next time I’m in Benny I’ll come up to Pueblo and have a game with the old farts.’
