Colins Corner

Thursday finds us with no referees or decent photography, I just about managed to squeeze everyone in.

Game 2 was refereed by Colin whilst playing and I’ll leave Fez to comment on how well that went.

Game 1 was refereed by Geoff the Commander whilst also playing.

Notes are scarce on this one with no natural reporter present but I can advise that Blacks won 5-2 with 3 braces.

Professional goal hanger Paolo scored all of reds goals making in 1-1 and 3-2 to blacks on each occasion

Pompey Alan who advised it’s warmer in Vancouver where he stowed away to many years ago scored the first and last goals of the match as his goodbye for another January visit, he’s suggested next year he might try Colombia for some decent weather.

The final brace apparently was scored by Dave Ram, at this point you’ll have to insert your own real name given we had Dave Rabbit and Alan Lamb in the team, no not the famous cricketer Dave Rabbit, the other one 😅

Relative new boy Rob scored the blacks 3rd goal

Geoff was a very good ref and Bambi barely uttered a word 😉

Game 2 was all about the wind…. No not that wind 😳

The team lined up

Black’s Eddie, Prak, Dave 🚖, John, Lawrence, Mark ⚽️ & Daz

Reds Tim, Tommy, Alvin, Colin (also ref), Mark 🐦, Mercedes & Fez

So two decent line ups and some good football played by both teams, however the defences were certainly on top with no goals scored in almost 40 minutes of play…

Colin multi tasking did a great job as ref letting the game flow as much as he could…

The wind with gusts towards the Poli building favoured that team with assisted shots..

The game swinging from end to end… Dave 🚖 allowed Fez to sit in his rear pocket out of the wind, using the same tactic Colin usually deploys…

Prak swept up everything else up at the back.. John, Lawrence and Daz caused mayhem up front…. But the scored remained goalless..

Mark v Mark battled against one another in attack and midfield… tussling for every ball and getting attacks started..

For the reds Tim made a number of good tackles stopping the blacks from testing whoever was in goal..

Tommy kept the back line tight with the assistance of Colin balancing his responsibilities to the highest of standards..

Alvin and Mercedes played some neat stuff and had several shots on target.. but if you can rely on a keeper Eddies your man..

Finally however the deadlock was broken……Mark 🐦 collected the ball in midfield founds Fez’s feet he held it up as Mark walked passed he flicked it into his path, one touch hard and low and Eddie was beat!

1-0 Reds

It didn’t last long the reds now wanting to play too deep and too much tippy tappy passed straight to Mark ⚽️ and he dispatched from close range..

1-1

Dave 🚖 was now venturing forward and leaving Fez to appear in pockets of space.. the ball fell to Fez and bang …

2-1 Reds

It seemed like that would be it.. but the reds undone all their hard work and endeavour… Tommy in goal came out the ball went backwards and as it went into the box Alvin trying to stop it poked it in his own goal 😞

2-2

At was about this point that there was a gust of wind… it blew a goal over hitting Eddie on the back of the head 🤩 all he could say was ‘Did the Wanders win’ No Eddie they didn’t 😂😂

The game went into over drive with both teams trying to get a winner…

The reds again playing it out from the back got caught again this time Lawrence let rip and the blacks were in front 😳

2-3

The reds went out in search of an equaliser and threw everything at it with no avail until……

Eddie still dazed and seeing Toti Gomes lifting the Premiership trophy with the sun in his eyes and the wind blowing at his face saw Mercedes just inside his half with the ball at her feet….

Mercedes danced (walking dancing obvs) past 3 defenders and fired a wind assisted ball towards the goal..

Eddie dived to his right and a combination of everything in the last two paragraphs ended with the ball going into the net !!!!

3-3

All Colin had to do was blow the whistle and he did..

3 Thursdays 3 draws ! 3-3 …Some will say inspired team picks from Dave 🦊.. others the ref played his part 😳 no it was another good game that could have gone either way but played in the right spirit.

Who takes the honor’s this week ? It was a tough decision with some top performances!

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mark 🐦 marked Mark and scored
⭐️⭐️ Mercedes came up with the goods
⭐️ Colin played well and reffed well too

Finally Alan  is off back to canada and not back until Feb next year, hope Pompy survive mate see you in 2027 😳

With a lot of players still on their holidays or not available it was great to see game one 9 v 9 and game two 7 v 7 great numbers ! See you in February 2026 😉
