It’s great to see so many kids getting exercise and playing football with us oldies watching on dreaming of how it used to be.
Yes we had to wait for the youngsters again before we could play
Now game 2 had no match reporter as I was reffing game 1.
So briefly it ended 2-2, Garry got 2 and Martin and Han equalised. Ref John reported a much calmer game due to some absences. I’ll leave it there….
Game 1 was 6 aside once Paul arrived a few minutes late.
As a game 2 player where the walking is mostly done before and after the game it was refreshing to see that we do in fact play Walking Football
Most of the passes are into feet and generally players give each other space….. to start with, by the end, challenges are getting a bit more niggly as the legs warm up and the influence of the youngsters trickles through and back heal flicks are every other touch.
Early exchanges of goals had the game evenly matched with Graham and Paulo scoring 2 for Reds and Terry hitting a brace in reply.
Bambi was doing a good job of refereeing the game making the ref (me) almost obsolete
Boris kept loosing count after 2 so started again and had to be penalised countless times, Geoff was happy to say nothing about these oversights.
You could almost hear hamstrings pinging as legs were stretched to reach the ball coupled with some fast hobbling I was even challenged when I blew up for running by Paulo as he wasn’t sure he could even run
Bambi was in goal for blacks and made some great saves but after he let in a couple a change was made. Graham scored a long range punt when Paulo dummied and the ball crept through his legs past a perplexed Bambi.
Mad Dog Paul scored the 4th and at 4-2 reds the in fighting between blacks became more noticeable, bad passes were barracked missed opportunities were moaned about and if it wasn’t for the Man of the Match performance by Paul New Knee throwing himself around Peter Bonetti style reds would have doubled their score.
Even when he was on the ground having beaten away a shot from Graham with the goal at his mercy Paulo somehow found the post.
Despite his heroics Ton stretching his long legs held together with gaffer tape and received the ball on the wing in space and finally beat Paul to make the final score 5-2 reds
