Match report for game #1 as remembered by Sean

With the sun beaming down and the temperature hovering around the 30 degrees mark the call to play walking football was answered by 17 brave person who are basically unencumbered by the thought process of, why are we subjecting ourselves to the riggers and the bodily pain that follows.

The sides, due to some late call outs, didn’t aline with the publish lineups picked by Dave Fox.

Blacks were reduced to 8 while Reds maintained their 9.

The Reds consisted of Welsh, not Tom Jones, Steve between the sticks. Big man Graham center back, Doc Martyn on right back, Paul mad dog, drifting around causing as much mayhem in the black attack as possible. With Scotsman Joe controlling the middle and right wing. Yours truely sucking wind in midfield assisted by new man Soren. Up front with a combined experience in the range of 160 years between them Ken and Dasher!

Blacks started with Benalmadena’s top chef Ton in goal, Klaus and Pete Fish in defense Hooverboard man Kevo and Dave Owl in the middle assisted by Jaco and striker extraordinare Bambi assisted by Graham the fly.

Reds began to dominate the proceedings with some skillful football by Scotsman Joe and Soren leading to a chance for Sean only to be wasted as the ball went skyward to the right and wide. This was shortly followed by several squandered chances by Dasher, Sean and Soren.

Despite valiant efforts of Kevo, Dave the owl and Jaco Blacks struggled to maintain possession or threaten the Reds goal. So at the 1st break the sides were tied 0-0.

In the 2nd half Blacks dominance finally paid off when Soren managed to squeeze one past Dave owl in the black goal. 1-0.

In the 3rd quarter of 5 quarters, Sean’s math, Ken got on the end of a long pass and as usual dispatched the ball into the back of the black net. 2-0 Reds

By the 4 period Big Graham had switched sides giving Black a man advantage. Ton took up his position out left Bambi hid behind the red defenders and Graham the fly tried to locate him.

But each attacked started by Kevo or Dave owl was snuffed out by the reds defense of Martyn and Mad dog. Blacks came closest when a Dave the owls shot heading to the top left corner was blocked at the last second by the outstretched hand of the Reds goalie.

The game was getting a bit scrappy with neither side creating chances when a Black player, who shall remain nameless, because I can’t remember who it was played the ball inside the box. After some discussion with Ken on taking the penalty, which he rejected.?Dasher stepped forward to dispatch the ball for once past Jaco in the Blacks goalie. 3-0.

In the final and 5th quarter we were treated to a quality goal keeping display as Jaco saved everything directed at him. Between, mad dog, Sean and Dasher Reds about 20 shouts either saved or were directed towards a galaxy far, far away. The game ran itself out and all involved with a final score of Reds 3 Blacks 0.

The game was played in a good spirit with few fouls and no tantrums. Til next time!

Match 2 report from Colin

Game 2 on Thursday was a busy 9 aside match with Dave 🦊 refereeing

Well done to Fish for providing the largest pitch possible

There’s too many players to name check all so the key moments started with a deflected Mark G goal for reds. Eddie in goal had the ball covered until Colin stuck a leg out and that was enough. 1-0 red

There was plenty of energy from blacks with Keith, Maj, John and Mark C doing their best but the supporting cast just couldn’t click as well as the reds who always seemed to have space and better passing with Jim, Henning, Nev and Lawrence continuously attacking which resulted in a brace from Jim. 3-0 reds

Reds increased their lead further when Henning drilled in a fourth.

Blacks kept at it and the ball found Kev in space who reduced the deficit 4-1 reds

A tangle of legs between Mark C and Jim resulted in a penalty with Jim looking to complete his hat-trick.

The goal was scored but the ref saw something wrong and it was disallowed

The game ended 4-1 reds
