Countdown to next game at the Finca

Match Report from Robin

With the Gibraltar W F visit being postponed until next week but it being dry (just) before 10am there was a surprise for the lads to find a group of athletic Danish chaps on our pitch. A match had been hastily arranged by Finca owner Peter Naundrup – seven aside with rolling subs to ensure all our lads got some game time.

Our lot started with five over-seventies with Col the Manc, and Tony J on the bench with Gaza and got immediately into their stride with Keith blasting a couple of scorchers wide and high.

Our guests, although younger and fitter looking than us, were having difficulty in coping with the three-step rule although Teflon did have to be on his toes and was called upon to show his now customary goal-keeping skills. From time to time our Danish friends did show their true skills with some intricate skilful passing but, unlike Keith, they found the “no running” aspect difficult.

Yer man was buzzing and finished the match with four goals under his belt. Jill had clearly slipped something into his morning cuppa.

Gaza was denied a hat-trick by a post and Steve R completed the scoring with a better.

Thomas Oro ( and here was me thinking they were all called Hans, Christian or similar similar) had two fine strikes for HG .

The seven two score line did not accurately reflect a superiority in skills but more an unfamiliarity with Walking Football’s rules eg running, three steps and encroachment into the goal area to name but three frequently transgressed by our guests.

An enjoyable outing for all in a sporting encounter played in the ” Spirit of the Game”

Our Scandinavian friends retired to their rooms to clean up before lunch and we retired as usual to the bar, where after an elegant sufficiency most of us took our leave of Jim, and Gaz (surprise, surprise) and MoM Keith who had shown an affinity with bars having struck the woodwork on a couple of occasions earlier on.
