- Outfield players are allowed no more than 3 deliberate touches of the ball. On the third (3rd) touch the player must step away from the ball and not shield it to prevent the opposing players from playing the ball. Should the ball hit the legs/feet of a player before the player gains control, it will not be considered one of the three (3) touches.
- There is to be no physical contact and any tackling must be face to face ONLY. Tackling that is from behind, through legs or from the side will be deemed foul play and incur a free kick or penalty.
- Should a player fall, play is to be stopped for safety reasons. Play is to re-start with an uncontested drop ball to the team who had possession prior to the stoppage in play.
- The ball can only be played whilst on both feet not from the floor.
- Should the ball go over head height it will not be deemed a foul, however should any player abuse the overhead ball rule on a persistent basis the referee may impose sanctions. For the avoidance of doubt head height is measured as the height of the crossbar. For safety reasons heading of the ball is not allowed and will be considered a foul.
- It is not allowed to score from your own half.
- Running whilst in possession of the ball or in an attempt to reach or get to a ball or towards another player is not allowed and will be considered foul play and a free kick or penalty will be awarded. Running or jogging into space whilst not in possession or trying to reach a ball will be allowed but sprinting or aggressive running is not allowed and will be penalised.
- Goalkeepers are only to distribute the ball using an under arm throw or a kick along the ground. Keepers are allowed to leave the area of the goal (rush keepers) and as soon as they do the 3 touch rule applies. Should a goal keeper deliberately touch the ball with his hand outside of the goal area a penalty kick is to be awarded to the opposition. During a penalty kick goal keepers must not move from the goal line until the ball is kicked. The GK is allowed to move along his line at a penalty.
- Should any outfield player step into the area it will be considered a foul and it is keepers If a player steps into his own goal area then a penalty will be awarded to the opposition. The line of the area is considered to be in the goal area. Should an outfield player make an attempt on goal from outside the area but his momentum carries him into the area then the attacking player will receive the benefit of the doubt and there will be no sanction. Any penalty must be taken 3 metres from the goal area line directly in front of the goal.
- All free kicks are indirect . The player taking a penalty may only take one (1) step before kicking the ball. After a free kick is taken the ball must be played by a player of the same team before a goal can be scored. Opposition players must stand at least three (3) metres from where the free kick is being taken. The 3 metre rule includes kick off, kick ins and corners. Deliberate handball by an outfield player is a foul.
- After the ball goes out of play for what ordinarily would be a ‘throw in’ the ball is returned to play by a kick in.
- Persistent disruption or interference either verbally or otherwise will be considered to be not conducive to the spirit of the game and persistent offenders may be sanctioned during the game.
- When the SPIRIT OF THE GAME is referred to it means the following – It is the mindful behaviour practiced prior to, during and after the game that allows players to work together to uphold the rules and enjoy the game. Wherever possible flexibility will be practiced but all players must be mindful of their duty of care to each other.
- The referees interpretation and decision is final. Referees may make mistakes and this must be respected and accepted.

Great and sensible
Well done John and thank you.
Let’s remember “spiirit of the game”
Spirit of the game lets all enjoy andhave a great game a lots of beers
Just to be clear these are not MY rules I merely wrote them up. These new rules are a hybrid set specifically for our club. The final draft has been agreed by the committee. Too many do not read the rules properly and thats a shame and too many do not understand what Spirit of the Game means…just play fair and don’t try and cheat!😉🙄
Question re rule 7 – are we allowed to run to reach the ball?
Running to reach a ball (especially when others may be doing the same) is not allowed.
Many of the rules try to ensure safety of players.
The second part of the rule says you can? Or am I misreading it?
Youre misreading it 😁
Regarding running I am struggling a bit to understand the difference he o
“or in an attempt to reach or get to a ball or towards another player is not allowed “
“Running or jogging into space whilst not in possession or trying to reach a ball will be allowed “
1.If a player jogs into space to receive the ball. The ball is passed to him and he and the ball arrive at the same time. He is technically running to get the ball. Does a player have to have jogged into space and already stopped to receive a pass?
2. If a defending player joggs along with the player on offence and gets to the ball 1st is that a foul.?
I guess my question is if I am on defense and I see an opponent jogging into space can I jog with him or towards him to try and block his pass or intercept the pass to him in space?
Running to reach a ball (especially when others may be doing the same) is not allowed. Jogging into space when NOT in possession or NOT trying to reach a loose ball to then receive a pass would be allowed, however sprinting or aggressive running in that instance would not be allowed.
Further to your question Sean, jogging along side another player is fine bearing in mind the rules concerning contact and tackling. It would be difficult to include every possible ‘offence’ and this is where the referee must decide whether an offence has occurred.
ok got it and it’s about time. Nice to know we have rules that may be attered to by players.
Well done John and t’ committee. These are sensible and a good attempt to make the games safe and enjoyable for everyone.
Both of us worked really hard to produce a set of rules for your enjoyment and safety.
It wasn’t that long ago that we allowed uncontrolled running in the “fast” game.
It lasted a couple of weeks as everyone got injured.
We went back to mixed games.
Thank you guys for participating and debating on the website.
Thanks for the clarification John
Rules read and inwardly digested.
