Match 1 report by you AI Correspondent, AI Addio

So, in the past few weeks we have had discussions regarding the political situation in Europe, America, the Middle east. This week your correspondent will be discussing probably the most interesting of them all.

Pete the Pilgrim and Brian the Greek met and the discussion was about that centuries old problem, no, not jam or cream first on scones, they’re all the same if you tip them upside down. No, we are talking about Pasty’s between one from the city with Cornwall’s second-best team, Argyle (Truro city, thanks for asking) and Devons finest, from Exeter.

Argyle pasty’s, from Ginsters, made from floor sweepings mixed with gristle and dog food, packed into something resembling Ghandis coffin (truth be told, there’s probably more meat in Ghandis coffin) lovingly crimped by a machine operated by Beryl, trying to get away from the 14 kids by 12 different fathers, left at home and the one from devons capital, containing only the finest lamb and vegetables, hand crimped by Polynesian virgins, 50ft under water.

No contest!

Anyway, on to the football, you would think that the final scoreline would have meant the game was as close as the pasty contest, however, on paper the teams were fairly evenly matched.

Both teams set out to play flowing football and in the main, achieved it, the difference being the last 1/3rd, blacks scored nearly all of their chances, Reds missed nearly all of theirs.

Reds, with Terry spreading the ball around nicely, Steve chasing up and down the wings, Klaus defending with his life and Bambi, being Bambi. The blacks with the midfield trio of Brian, Pete and Pete snuffing out the majority of Reds attacks and forcing them to rely on long range shots. Majid, Keith and Graham finding Gaps in the red defence and Dave & John being there to force the red keeper into bending down to pick the ball out of the net.

At the end of the game, the final score was 8 – 1 to the blacks with 2 from Graham, 2 from the referee, 2 from Majid. Keith adding possibly the goal of the game and Klaus with an unfortunate own goal. The Reds response was by Bambi, via about 11 deflections.

An easy game to ref, thanks to Dave. After the game, Bambis was presented with a certificate by Guiness world records for the highest use of the F-word in one hour’s football.

Onwards and upwards to the next game. Incidentally, dates for your diary, Monday is a bank holiday in Benalmadena, so, the polideportivo will be closed and this Thursday is the last chance to order shirts and t shirts from Kevo until the new year. Details on the website.

Match 2 report from Colin

Todays match 2 report is brought to you by Colin who makes a rare appearance from the depths of the oceans.

I have no political statements to make and will not be as funny or emoji strewn as Sean or Fez so here goes

Game 2 was a 7 aside affair, with an increasing number of regular players dropping down to the slower game it allowed or needed a few game 1 players to step across the walking/running divide

It seemed as if Blacks might be stronger but with some new (to me) faces I had no idea.

Reds with Dave 👑 in goal, Colin and Kevo at the back, Alan and Paul on the wings feeding Mark in the Centre and Howie up front were controlling the ball well and keeping blacks who lined up with Steve in goal, defence of Tommy and Prak and a front 4 of an ever changing John, Jim, Ian and Richard at bay.

Ref John had a relatively quiet game and needed so honesty to ensure the game was played fairly.

The first goal was a brilliantly curled shot from just inside the half way line by Mark beating Steve to his left 1-0 Reds

1-0 became 2-0 when Steve in goal presented the ball to Howard who needed no more invitations and stroked the ball home.

Blacks may have been 2-0 down but they were continuously pressing with Jim and John leading the line.

Eventually the footballing skills of passing and moving paid off with reds being pulled in all directions and John was able to power through and drill past Dave in goal 2-1 Reds

Blacks continued to probe and if not for 👑 in goal they would have scored 4 or 5.

Paul deserves a mention for his tenacity at breaking up countless moves and Kev struggling with a bad back was holding the defensive line well to keep reds noses in front

With 10 minutes remaining Richard went down with a calf injury and had to limp off leaving blacks a man down and reds assuming they merely had to manage the game out

In theory that should have been easy but reds despite the extra man probably lacked enough skill to maintain keepball and eventually a tangle between Kevo and Colin coupled with Dave going to ground early in goal somehow managed to give Jim a sniff of the ball and he gratefully accepted the invite to equalise.

Mark for Reds deserved better for the amount of energy he expended and yards covered but with a team game you’re only as good as the collective

In the end 2-2 was a fair result from a good game

MoM has to be Dave 👑 in goal with Paul deserving a mention for reds and Jim for blacks for his silky skills on the left wing
