Time until the next game at Benalmadena Polideportivo

Fast Game Report by Breck

Reds… 1 versus Blacks …2

A bit of a delayed start today as we welcomed fellow WF devotees from Keynsham.

As most of us hail from “up north”, as Brian told us last week, it should be explained that Keynsham is a Somerset town (pop.16,000) situated between Bristol and Bath. Having dispensed with the geography lesson and introductions made all round, the nine a side match kicked off using the full size goals and a rather large playing surface.

With Steve L taking over between the sticks for the reds, Kevo would not get a chance today to reprise his heroics from last Thursday.

Kick Off – and as both teams each had 3 visitors, the first 10 minutes or so was quite cagey as players gradually came to terms with the rules and their new team mates.

However, it soon became apparent that Paul, playing for the blacks, was an attacking threat and possessed an really explosive shot. So it was really no surprise that he opened the scoring just before the end of the first quarter with a rasping shot that gave Steve L no chance. Shortly after, he nearly doubled his tally with a rocket shot that crashed off the underside of the bar which I swear lifted the entire goal frame off the ground!

Into the second quarter now and Darren, inspired by Paul’s shooting ability sought to get into the act. Bombing down the left wing he fired in a shot that was unbelievably dipping in under the bar. However, Steve L finger tipped it over the bar to deny Darren a goal of the month contender.

Into the 3rd quarter now and the reds began to gain the upper hand and it was no surprise when Kevo fired in an equaliser from outside the box which curled into the bottom corner of the net giving Terry no chance.

The blacks now regrouped and pushed hard to regain the lead. Steve L had to make a number of excellent saves to keep the scores level and he was aided by two howling misses from the blacks.

First, yours truly blazed over from the edge of the box following a great pass from tv Kev. Then Kev himself launched one right out the stadium when it looked easier to score.

The blacks didn’t have too long to wait for a goal which would prove to be a winning one. Paul saved the day, and some of our blushes, with another excellent strike.

Keith who had manfully struggled to keep the tempo of the game down called time shortly after the hour mark and everyone retired to the bar to await a delivery of beer. I’m now off to sweep some leaves off the tracks. See you all on Thursday for the next thrilling instalment.
