Time until the next game at Benalmadena Polideportivo

Match Report by Steve C

A momentous week in the relatively short history of Benalmadena WF Club was brought to a close on Thursday afternoon with drinks and savouries in celebration of Kevin’s imminent birthday.

Most of the regulars lingered well into the afternoon both in celebration and relief at Colin’s recovery. The events of Monday were something we hoped and prayed would never happen during a game but deep down we all knew it was a distinct possibility. When Colin keeled over on Monday, our emergency response team sprang into action without hesitation sensing the seriousness of the situation.

The events, well wishes and prayers of the membership have been well documented on the WhatsApp group for everybody to see.

In addition, Keith’s sensitive account of the week’s traumatic events on Thursday, confirmed we had all contributed to a successful outcome for Colin and his family. Martyn, our resident medic, also contributed some wise words and prescient thoughts for the group. We look forward to future developments on that front.

As we have said before, the scores don’t really matter but this week the games themselves fall into this category.

However, for the record the WF games this week were of the experimental variety. 12-a-side on Monday and 13-a-side on Thursday.

The experiments seemed to work quite well producing competitive games….3-2 in favour of the oranges on Monday and 4-2 for the lemons on Thursday.

Welsh John scored a cracker in the first game and Dazza(was he playing in the right game?) maintained his recent goalscoring run with one in the Thursday game.

Some players returned to the WF fold during the week and a couple, Eddie and Graham are returning to the UK and are threatening to return in December.

In passing, I must also mention Graham’s 3 grandchildren who are keen readers of these WF reports (thank goodness somebody is!). Looking through the teamsheets I noticed that Graham was one of the few players to win twice this week. Grandad done good, kids.

Onwards and upwards as they say and see you all again on Monday.
