Time until the next game at Benalmadena Polideportivo
From your special reporter
Owing to numbers, 2 games were played at a very warm polideportivo.
The slow game started with 8 reds playing 7 blacks. Early on the reds took the game to the blacks and opened the scoring through Glyn striking from fully 20 yards and then doubled the scoring through a team goal brilliantly scored by Ken. Keith bought the first third to an end and the players eagerly trooped off the pitch for a welcome cold refreshment with the score showing reds 2 , blacky blueys 0
The second third started with Steve in goal for the reds and he was soon beaten by a toe poke from Mike. Steve mentioned that he was fooled by the swerve on the ball caused through the swirling breeze.
Play stopped for a few seconds as Johan from the fast game disappeared to either check the plumbing or check to see if the bar was open. This distraction aided the blacky blues and allowed them to equalise through a second from Mike.
The third third was a bit of an anti-climax from a scoring point of view despite the blacky blues having the majority of the play. Several good saves from the red goalie ( The ball hit you! ….Ed ) including one fantastic moment with a dive resembling one of those old, slow motion, black and white movies of a block of flats being demolished and no more goals were registered before Keith blew the whistle for no side.
With the bar being open, the players adjourned to the Bar.
Game number 2, the fast game was a cagey game from start to finish. The bluey blacks lining up with 7 players to 8 red players. There were 3 new players playing today, Steve, Paul and Mick so a very warm welcome to WFS to those 3.
Mick spent a big part of the game in goal, where he acquitted himself brilliantly, including one double save that left everyone breathless.
In a very evenly matched game, the only goal came in the second quarter, following a passage of good build up play, finished off very ably by Mark. The game continued to be played in a great spirit, reffed well by Steve L (Thanks for your help Steve! ) and despite several good chances at both ends, just the one goal was scored and the game finished up Reds 0 Bluey Blacks 1.
As with the slow game, both sets of players made their way up the stairs , not to collect the cup but goblets of amber nectar.
We will have to do this again, in fact, we are this coming Thursday at the Polideportivo!
