Time until the next game at Benalmadena Polideportivo

Polideportivo in the sun.

Oranges 8 Lemons 1

The rain forecast earlier in the week didn’t materialise, so it was another lovely day at the Poli.

John from Wales rejoined the WF crew after 18 months in quarantine and James continued his current rehabilitation programme with the stars of Benalmadena WFC.

Our old friend Olaf, the top baker of “sausages in dressing gowns” was also making a flying visit to town for today’s match.

Kevo led the warm up and the team photo was taken for posterity by Keith who then promptly took the whistle and outlined the rules for today on the full sized pitch.

KICK OFF

After a number of weeks on smaller pitches most of the players seemed to struggle with the intricacies of the larger game format.

After 30 minutes the score was 2-1 to the oranges. Two goals from the effervescent Max and a dashing low strike from John on his return was the situation at half way.

GAME ON

With tiredness creeping in and some profligate shooting the lemons began to succumb to the orange offence.

Max grabbed a further 6 goals and Eddie drilled in a left foot drive which hit the stanchion.

These goals were partially assisted by some poor defensive play by the lemons. Urged on by Keith the lemons tried to close the gap but their main goal threat came from Dazza who seemed to have reverted back to his Gaelic football daze!

However, he did have a superb shot which was destined for the top corner and would have been the second best goal he had ever scored but Bjarne tipped it over the bar.

Glyn missed a penalty when it looked easier to score and Geoff trundled a shot off the right hand post late in the game.

Geoff, expertly set up by Keith, quickly followed up by missing an absolute “sitter”, although I’m sure it bobbled on the “uneven” surface just before he made contact.

By this point Keith had had enough and blew his whistle for no side.

GAME OVER

To the Bar. Today the jugs of beer were accompanied by some plates of Manchego cheese, olives and bread…nice.

Wide ranging debate today included the options for some kind of pre-Christmas jamboree.

Geoff curried some more favours with the bar staff so it could turn out to be quite an event! Wherefor art thou Chopper is the words on everybody’s’ lips

Maybe see you on Monday?
