On arrival at a warm & breezy morning at the Poli, I was aware of a calm and serene atmosphere.

I then realised that Rippondens train station announcer was having his first consultation re his personality disorder. The cries of who’s not paid was sorted in a speedy manner.

The game itself was a well contested 2-0 victory for the Oranges, but is only half the story.

Things were pretty equal for a while until Welsh Steve rifled in a close range effort at the 4th attempt. As Geoff had borrowed the VAR equipment as part of his home security set up, there was a strong case for encroachment into the area. Keith to his credit allowed the goal to stand.

The Yellows responded with a good period of possession and Maurice found his feet this week to put some telling crosses in & a couple of well struck efforts without reward.

He then suffered an injury & Dave Smedley was on hand to drop into midfield.

As the heat took its toll, Dave the Owl scored a typical good goal finding a quick turn and powerful strike in the corner.

Try as they might yellows had a lot of the ball but Bob marshalled his defence and with Terry finding space in midfield plus Olaf offering lots of energy the oranges had a bagful of chances but Boris in goal was inspirational producing save after save and belied the fact that we are celebrating his 100th birthday Thursday week😂⚽️.

Kev had a powerful shot that beat the keeper but cannoned off the post, and that was it.

Teams retired to the bar to reflect on the game over a few beers.

All the guys seemed to agree that Geoff might struggle to regain his place up front going forward.

See you all Thursday morning 10.30 for 11am.

Action from today at the Polideportivo
