Match Report by Geoff
BLACKS….6 versus REDS….2
After a month away in the UK it was good to be back in the sunshine and seeing that not much had changed, especially the prima donor behaviour of Bambi, this no doubt as a result of scoring a hat-trick the previous week and being named man of the match.
Yet again two more no shows. Thereby giving Breck the problem of juggling the teams around at the last minute including himself moving into the Blacks.
It was pleasing to see our oldest member, octogenarian Walter aka ‘The Nogler’ back from his four month jaunt to Cape Verde, doing his good deeds and telling everyone that he had now finished his second novel. This was indeed good news for Keef the intended recipient of the book as he tells me he is in dire need at home for a new doorstop!
An early goal from Nigel following some excellent passing between Dazza, Keef and Laurence put the Blacks one up.
After the first water break Laurence put the Blacks two up with a powerful shot from distance which took a deflection of JH’s backside giving the goalie no chance.
On 35 minutes the Gooner made up for his deflected own goal earlier with a fantastic shot from distance, reducing the deficit for the Reds.
Almost immediately not to be outdone Nigel hit a screamer from some 40 yards, 3-1 to the Blacks.
Pete, making a rare appearance into the opposition goal area, then made it 4-1 to the Blacks with his shot going in off the post.
Bambi after receiving some vociferous coaching from teammate Terry made it 5-1 after finding space and making himself available for a pass much to the delight of his new mentor and mine host of the nearby Lilac Tree.
For the last 20 minutes of the match Breck who had been having a blinder in goal for the Blacks decided he had seen enough and changed sides to go into goal for the Reds.
Then Bambi made it 6-1 for the Blacks following a smart through pass from Dazza, no stopping him now as he strutted around the pitch after hardly breaking into a sweat for 85 minutes.
Fittingly JH gave the score a slightly more respectable look with his second goal with yet another scorcher from distance giving Dazza in goal no chance, indeed he only saw the ball when picking it up from the back of the net.
An hat-trick of sorts for the Gooner which he not surprisingly didn’t mention.
Final score 6-2 to the Blacks.
For the Reds Graham worked tirelessly in midfield as did ‘Our Aud’ who by now sweating profusely resembled a modern day Pocahontas with a bandana around her forehead .
For the Blacks Laurence was outstanding spraying balls at ease to his teammates ensuring they dominated midfield throughout the match.
Undoubtedly if Breck had been in goal for the Reds from the beginning the score would almost certainly been much closer, his agility belied his bulky frame!
