Time until the next game at Benahavis

Match report by Rob Fitzgerald

Tonight saw two teams Blues & Whites lining up as if qualification for the knock out stages of the Euros was at stake!

The first quarter saw Whites open up with a two nil lead at the break courtesy of a penalty for Andrew, following an infringement in the penalty area and a well & calmly taken effort from John Barclay…so far so good 👍⚽️

Your reporter was of course playing for Whites 🤣

Unfortunately, Andy Robertson suffered a painful groin injury but no one knows how. Was it Popeye’s pre match warm up? Wanking pre match?

Who knows but after 10 minutes he was out the game and Whites had to soldier on without any substitutions. Could they retain their lead?

Of course they could! The resolve and determination shown by PJ & Steve at the back , not to mention numerous world class saves from Ciaran in goal, meant Blues could only score twice in the 2nd quarter both of which were ably despatched by the Scottish Colombian aka James!

However, class as we know is permanent and Andrew rifled in two more with that trusty left peg of his to make the score 5-2 to Whites at half time….

As someone famously said football is a game of two halves and tonight was the epitome of that!

The Blue wave came again and again but the White Wall stood firm . Lynam, Duffel, Johnston & Patron, those names will go down in history, as they fought and scrapped to hang on to that lead.

James a driving force on midfield for Blues, supported by Duncan, Cifaldi & The Geordie began to exert their influence on the game and James completed his hat trick to bring it back to 5-3 at the end of Q3….

Drama ensued, Rossiter (Blue) who was having a fine game as their deep lying midfielder, and who had several attempts on goal, was twarted by the Oirish Jennings on so many occasions and came a cropper in stretching too far and succumbed to a painful calf tear which meant he had to leave the field (Speedy recovery mate 🤞)

But Blues pressed and Bill up front, laid on two more for the Colombian 🙄⚽️⚽️ to make it 5-4 with only minutes to go.

Whites didn’t just hang on though. Adrian, making his debut, broke free and with a bit more luck would have scored.

James that man again 🙄 brought it back to 5-4 to Whites as the final whistle blew on what was a keenly contested but fairly fought match under WFS rules.

I would like to pay tribute to Rob Humphries our match referee. Superb Rob 👍 You struck the right balance, we had a fair and even game in a mixed age group and you managed it well.

Final word – Rob Fitz, we missed you tonight, I know will read this, cracking game mate 👊 see you soon 🤔

Popeyes man of the Match was …………….Ciaran 🏆 Sorry James…😪😪
