Time until the Next game at Benalmadena Polideportivo
Match report by Geoff
Just the one game due to late withdrawals at the Polideportivo on Monday.
The Blacks took an early lead with a low angled shot from Laurence leaving Bambi flat footed in the Reds goal.
Not the type of start he really wanted after a months absence for our notorious bad boy!
Nice to see you back Bambi, I think!
1-0 Blacks
Rotating keepers let Bambi loose in midfield for him to make a superb pass through the Blacks defence to old stager Ken.
Defying his age, a mere eighty last week, turning with his back to goal he volleyed a tremendous shot into the back of the net, the ball deflecting in off a post past an amazed Steve Mac in goal.
1-1
Almost immediately, Nigel put the Blacks back in front with a shot from the halfway line.
The ball holding up high in the strong head wind, deceiving Kevo in goal to drop into the back of the Reds net through the his outstretched hands, leaving him looking up to the Gods in amazement.
2-1 Blacks
The next session began with Laurence scoring his second goal of the match to extend the Blacks lead to 3-1.
Almost immediately, ‘Foxy’ Dave pulled a goal back for the Reds with a shot going over the head of Rick in goal, the latter claiming his flowing locks in the wind had impaired his view.
3-2 Blacks.
In true Jamie Vardy style, our Leicester friend, Foxy Dave, with looks to match equalised with a low shot for his second goal.
In essence, Rick in the Blacks goal dressed like a tangerine man should have saved the shot, however he fumbled the ball only to see it roll into the back of his net!
3-3
Just before the end of the second session the Cab put the Reds in front for the first time with a low shot past Rick.
4-3 Reds at end of second session.
The last two sessions were amazingly goalless with both teams squandering chances.
This in no way detracted from what was a fantastic game between two evenly matched teams.
In fairness, John aka Fireman Sam played his part in allowing the game to flow by playing the advantage and some relaxed refereeing.
In the closing stages the Cab again went close with a strong low shot, only to see Laurence in the Blacks goal make a good sliding save with his feet.
This was followed by teammate and old stager Ken, showboating and giving a demonstration of his silky skills of yesteryear, unfortunately his shot went wide of the Blacks goal.
In the last 10 minutes the Blacks try as they might just couldn’t score.
Their best effort in this period following a a sublime cross by Nigel to Rick, was for the latter to see his shot tipped over the crossbar by Fish the Reds keeper..
FT: 4-3 to Reds
Footnote:
Frank Hickey our number one ‘ball boy’ had a much easier time for this match than the one last Thursday with this game being played across the pitch.
On the latter occasion, there being two 6 aside matches playing up the Polideportivo towards the main road he retrieved 32 balls, walking nearly 3 kilometres in the process.
No.mean achievement for a pensioner recovering from a serious back injury. Tremendous.
Thanks Geoff, getting fitter and fitter thanks to all in walking football.
