WFS v Wigan – Report by Colin
Thursday morning brought sunshine and 3 games as we welcomed a team from Wigan for an 8 aside game which unfolded thus
WFS Benalmadena lined up with part time ref Steve in goal a defence of Mark š¦, Dave š, Midfield of Colin, Han, Prak and Mercedes with Darren up front, though it’s fair to say Colin isn’t used to being so far up the pitch so he kept on drifting back.
Wigan looked smart in their kits which helped having numbers on the back so we knew who we were talking about.
Early man of the match award contender had to be the Wigan keeper who saved everything Darren threw at him.
With a much wider pitch there was plenty of space to pass into and for some reason Colin found himself up front, a tackled ball fell to him and amazingly he opened the scoring with a scruffy scuffed shot that the keeper fumbled over the line.
Mercedes was linking up well with Mark on the Right, Prak on the left and Darren holding the line
Eventually Darrens persistence paid off and he was able to double the lead.
It became apparent their no 7 was the target man so we now had someone to man mark which fell to Mark and Colin on rotation.
Han was useful in the middle, keeping it simple and linking up with Dave and Prak whilst Mercedes and Darren were getting shots off to no avail.
A few free kicks for tackles were awarded but the running was kept under control.
Wigan, whose average age was higher given we had 4 players under 57 were doing their best to mount attacks but were mostly snuffed out in midfield and eventually our score increased with Prak getting a third and with the last kick of the game Darren got his second for a 4-0 win to WFS
Match report 2 by your virtual correspondentĀ A I Addio
A beautiful sunny morning in the pueblo saw 12 gallant futbolistas gather at the polideportivo for a game of football.
Meanwhile on the other pitch another 12 gathered for a game of Iām not running, it just looks that way.
The game kicked off at precisely 11 oāclockish, the blacks waiting for Kevo, who was manfully stepping into the breach left by the commander, who was on another of his jaunts back to the UK and found themselves down 1-0 before he arrived.
Mind you the reds were waiting for their team to be complete as well and waited till about 10 past for that event to happen for the second time running (or should that be walking). No names, no packdrill.
With a six a side game being played on the regular size pitch, there was plenty of room for some decent football, and in most cases thatās what happened.
Goals were scored at regular intervals with the final score being 6-4 to the blacks. Dave the owl with a hattrick, Dave (Iām not running, it just looks that way) Smith with 2 and Ken scoring for what seems like the umpteenth game running. For the reds, Gert and Paul with 2 each.
Mention had to be made of one of Gerts goals, a mishit toe poke from about 20 yards away that the blacks goalie (yours truly!) bent down to pick up.Ā Unfortunately, he bent down slower than a giraffe having a drink and the ball trickled through his legs. There was a phone call from the spurs manager to hook him.
The game was managed well by the ref, Eddie, who even managed to give a foul against Bambi.
Onwards and sideways to the next meeting of minds at the poli this coming Monday.
Match 1 report by Dave
With the game against Wigan taking 8 fast players. This game was a mix of slow and fast players with Blacks having 6 players and Reds with 5.
Well into the 2nd qtr, l realised Colin wasn’t in this game so I’d best start taking notes on the game i was reffing in.
In the 1st qtr a ball from Keef to Mick Dundee split the 1 man Red defence (Boris). Mick held the ball with his left foot, spun and hit a thunderous shot on goal. Graham in goal for the Reds could only parry the ball some 3 foot over his head and watch it drop into his goal.
Blacks go 1 nil up.
Into the 2nd quarter. In goal for the Reds, Keef stepped outside his goal area to play a ball. Jim for the Reds scored from the spot. One One.
Both sides were beginning to play some nice football, particularly the Reds with Mark, Kevin and Jim easing through the Blacks formation. Boris sitting quietly in defence for the Reds playing his simple, steady game. Graham in goal was saving everything the blacks were hitting at goal.
Kevin for Blacks scores 2 goals in quick succession. His first again good movement from the Reds sees him hit a ball past Tommy’s left. The second, a hard strike again to Tommy’s left.
Reds 3 Blacks 1
Black heads starting to go down. Keef was barking out his encouragement, or was it frustration?
Alvin shoots wildly for the Blacks and ends in a heap on the floor clutching his right achilles. Manfully he plays on.
Welsh Steve and Dr Martyn combine well to give Mick Dundee a shot on goal. Who’s there. Graham, this one bouncing off his ankle.
Jim scores again for the Reds. 4-1 to the Reds.
Blacks now have no response. The Reds going forward relentlessly. And of course score again. This time Mark gets a goal. Another good move from the Reds he slots it low to Tommy’s left. Reds 5-1 up.
Alvin was one on one with Graham but simply didn’t have the energy to go the distance round him!
With 3 mins of extra time played, the ref calls an end tp proceedings.
Reds winners 5 goals to 1.
The game was played in the spirit expected of players. Well done to you all.
MOTM. Has to be Graham. š„
Boy could he fill hhat goal and clearly saved 6 goals for the Reds……
