Colins column

Game 1 was 10 v 9 and we’ve still players to return, at this rate we’re going to need a 3rd pitch.

As ever with larger games there’s a lot less running and much more passing epitomising the name of the game.

Blacks were gifted a strange opening goal, keeper Klaus kicked the ball straight to Toni who happily knocked the ball into the net and it stayed 1-0 for some time.

However many a football fan will know you are foolish to try and defend a 1-0 lead and inevitably reds were 2-1 up with a Paulo brace who despite encroaching into the opposition goal area managed to keep out of his own this time and abandoned the risky back heal 😅

Ken was finding his feet and his goal will come, but sadly not in this game.

The final goal was a peach of a strike by Alvin that looked to be heading straight to Paulo who lifting his foot allowed the ball to fly past Graham and Reds finished the 3-1 victors.

Rorys ramblings

It’s only a game

It was another great turnout at walking football with game 2 laying on a competitive match of 10 a side. Good to see Gary back after unfortunately having to ditch his plane in the Med. Fez was also returning while carefully nursing his dodgy calf. Both teams had an equal sprinkling of tacklers from behind so the pain would be shared equally between the teams.

The blacks had loads of goals in their team, with Fez and Gary up front. Johan dropped deep for the reds to play alongside John Terry wanabee Stan. The two ball playing centre backs were capable of setting up some attacks from deep. The reds had a more fluent pass and move style, but Tommy for the blacks was having none of it, and Eddie was always going to be tough to beat.
The deadlock was broken when Gary (ran) onto a bouncing through ball and brilliantly volleyed it into the goal. Blacks 1-0 Reds.

The Reds maintained their fluid playing style and Dazza sent a couple of sighters down to the costa having taken out a few passing pigeons. Some neat approach play involving Dave and Prak split the blacks defence and let Jim in to pull one back.
Blacks 1-1 Reds

Fez pulled up lame, with a strained fetlock, but he gamely carried on hoping that Stan wouldn’t take out his only functioning leg. Against the run of play Laurie set Dave the bee down the right flank. Although the situation didn’t look dangerous for the reds, Dave struck a screamer from out wide and it nestled in the bottom corner.
Blacks 2-1 Reds

The reds kept their calm and continued to weave a number of pretty patterns in midfield (currently to be seen in the Malaga museum of modern art). When they did decide to take a pot at goal, Eddie was rock solid behind a tough blacks defence led by Tommy. Mercurial goal poacher Mick snatched a brilliant opportunistic brace to put the reds into a deserved lead.
Blacks 2-3 Reds

However, after a sustained period of pressure the blacks grabbed an equaliser when Tommy, in an unusually advanced position, donned his cloak of invisibility and tip-toed into the box to side foot the equaliser. Ref Steve did a Wenger and saw nothing, well how could he possibly spot it when Tommy was not visible to the naked eye.
Blacks 3-3 Reds.

Both teams wanted to win and surged forward in an effort to break the deadlock. Mick looked like he’d secured a win for the reds when he intercepted the ball on the edge of the box, and suavely introduced some interpretive dance before stabbing the ball past the excellent Eddie. Unfortunately, what would have been a brilliant hat-trick was ruled out because the hit-man had neglected to trim his nasal hair that morning. With a strong off shore breeze, one recalcitrant hair wafted into the box before Mick could apply the killer blow. The goal was ruled out because a micro cell of his nasal hair was over the line. Shame.

Final score Blacks 3-3 Reds
A brilliant competitive game ended in draw which neither term deserved to lose.
