BLACKS …..7 v REDS…..3
First of all a big welcome to our 12 visitors from Keynsham who were represented in all three matches which took place last Monday at the Polideportivo.
Game 1 was a six aside match for the older members or those less able ended up eventually in a comfortable win for the Blacks.
Taking an early lead through an excellent brace of goals from guest visitor Andy the Reds responded after the water break with two quick goals from locals Paulo and ‘old stager’ Ken to put them level.
In the next session Andy made it 3-2 to the Blacks for his hat-trick with a terrific thunderbolt of a shot.
The Blacks began to play some excellent three touch football constantly putting the Reds on the back foot resulting in a fourth goal scored by Alan the local celebratory DJ 🎤. Blacks 4-2.
This his first goal in 11 months, allegedly according to him due to illness and injuries.
In the later stages of the match 3 quick goals for the Blacks, two by Andy taking his match total to five and another for DJ Alan.
Typical, like waiting 11 months for a bus, two come along in minutes! .
At the death ‘Fish’ got a consolation goal rifling one in from a corner, making the final score 7-3.
Save of the match was made by Boris in the Blacks goal, not having a clue where the shot had gone, it rebounded of his leg deflecting off another Black player for a corner from which ‘Fish’ got a rare consolation goal.
Boris’ claim to fame afterwards was that for the first time in one of his 10 minute spells in goal this was a he first time he had kept a clean sheet.
Man of the match undoubtedly Andy, ably supported by his Keynsham teammate Dave.
FT: 7-3 to Blacks.
Rorys Ramblings – Scuffalot
The ranks of the regular footballers were swollen by the arrival of ball juggling enthusiasts from Keynsham. This enabled a grown up game of 11 a-side football using the big pitch and accompanying goals.
The game took a little time to settle down, with a few “route 1” passes being fired into the lower atmosphere in an attempt to make quicker headway up the pitch. Ref John had to ‘ave a word to calm things down and remind the slow learners that the ball wasn’t allowed to travel at speed over head height. The Keynsham boys settled in at the back for the blacks with Mario in goal and Geoff and Bob playing twin centre halves.
Unfortunately Bob, who apparently rarely plays at the back, quickly lost his bearings and wandered into the box, giving John no option but to award a penalty to the reds. Nev stepped up to take responsibility but blazed the ball over the bar against the backdrop of a collective sigh of relief from the blacks.
All the players were struggling to cope with the oversized penalty area, and it was only a matter of time before another penalty was conceded.
Sure enough Tommy had forgotten to bring his cloak of invisibility which normally protects him from being penalised when he wanders into the box. John couldn’t miss him when he stepped into the box to clear the ball.
Penalty to the blacks. Up stepped (no look pass) Dave the fox to smack it nicely into the top corner.
Blacks 1-0 Reds
Reds were starting to dominate midfield with Jim and Martin combining well and linking with the dangerous Simon whose eyes would light up when he got the briefest sight of goal.
The blacks also had some tasty ball players capable of keeping possession. Dave the owl and Kevo were the inspiration behind a number of eye catching attacks by the blacks.
One of these moves culminated in Rory taking a shot from distance which found its way past the massed ranks of the reds defence into the bottom corner past the unsighted Nev.
Blacks 2-0 Reds.
The reds fought back brilliantly and soon had the blacks under pressure, forcing them into a couple of calamitous defensive errors and gifting Simon a couple of expertly take goals.
Matters were compounded when Dazza did the classic pass across goal presenting the reds to go into a 3-2 lead. What a turnaround.
Blacks 2-3 Reds.
Fortunately for the blacks they snapped out of their torpor to besiege the reds goal.
Laurie remembered that his second touch didn’t have to be a tackle and prompted a series of dangerous attacks wit dynamic Dazza down the right flank.
As the game entered its final session, first Rory, and then the Fox bagged a couple of well struck goals. Ok, maybe Dave’s wasn’t that well struck but it was a beautifully scuffed shot which fooled everyone and trickled into the far corner to seal the win.
Final score Blacks 4-3 Reds.
A good game with plenty of skill on show alongside plentiful moments of hilarious absurdity. Thanks to John for doing a great job of reffing the game and keeping everyone honest.
Fez’s Findings
Monday 29th September we welcomed for the 5th year Keynsham (Brizzle) touring team. The 3 games were mixed teams..
Game 2 we were joined by Martin and Clive. This game will be known for the Harry (Graham) Kane hatrick !
Martin in Black & Clive in Red from our visitors.. another visitor Bobby looking suspiciously under 20 joined the reds… With a late absence for the reds the ref Fez returning from injury stepped into balance the numbers…
The 6 v 6 left enough space for some good passing and move football by both teams.. Kluas and Alvin played at the back marshalling Graham and Fez to good effect, but in doing so Ian (Tomas Brolin) was left to walk towards goal and unleash an unstoppable shot 1-0 Reds…
Keith also recovering from injury kept the blacks out with several neat saves.. Pete back for his 90 days defending well with Clive the first break 1-0 Reds.
The second period saw the energetic Bobby, Steve, Ton & Martin play some good one touch football.. However the goals went in favour of the reds…
Harry Kane (Graham) right place right time ball rolled to his feet 2-0. Fez back after several weeks out got half a yard and hit the net 3-0 Reds.
Reds were now playing some neat stuff with the blacks on the ropes confusion in defence Fez rolled another ball and Kane rolled in his second 4-0.
Finally the Blacks got some luck some neat passing around the Reds box’s and Ton got the final touch 4-1.
Pete clipped a long ball to the far post and in Kane fashion Graham hit a first time half volley and the net was bulging before the keeper moved ! Hatrick ⚽⚽⚽
5-1 Reds… still time for a comeback ? We ve had a few on pitch 2..
Alvin wiggled through the Reds defence and bang 5-2 the Blacks now more confident pushed forward leaving Hatrick hero Kane and Fez with lots of space..
A quick ball to Fez & he turned and hit the back of the net 6-2.. still time for more goals.. Kane walked on to a through ball and had the goal at his mercy but could only hit the bar !
The game was played in good spirit and ended 6-2 only the finishing of the reds was the difference as both teams played some really good one touch football.. All the lads played really well and enjoyed the game..
MOM – Klaus in goal made some great saves and played as a sweeper with good effect robbing Fez of goal scoring opportunities on several occasions.. As the last man defender broke up numerous attacks and got some great blocks in 💪
Great game looking forward to seeing the Keynsham on Thursday..
