Colins Corner
Another small sided game greeted us on Monday with additional water breaks due to the heat.
The teams were carefully picked by Colin meaning he’d obviously be on the winning team, you’d think 😅
From the off reds had a chemistry with Maj receiving the ball in the middle and doing one of his deceiving dummied passes that wrong foots the opposition to lay the ball of for the likes of Keith, Alan and Martin to move onto superbly backed up by Dave 🐝 and Prak
Blacks had their own central man Dave 🚖 who looked to lay off to Dave 🦉, Han and Alvin with Colin and Simon in supporting roles were never quite as in tune with each other
The goalscoring commenced with Martin and Alan finding the net for reds with cries from 🚖 of “the next goal needs to be ours”
If wishes came true Southampton would be playing Premier League football next season 🤔 so sadly reds got the next goal with Alan scoring again.
Unfortunately Frank our avid videoer wasn’t on hand to capture the 🦉 scoring in multiple successive games bringing the score to 3-1 reds.
Around this time Keith was pulled up for running around the pitch like Usain Bolt and Alvin…… no, he played the perfect game and never once drew ref Johns attention.
As energy sapped 🦉 took his turn in goal and Maj gave the blacks a chance by also standing between the posts, unfortunately he’s just as good in goal and saved shot after shot as reds tried to reduce the deficit.
A neat movement by reds found Keith unmarked at the back post and he increased the score but 🚖 replied 4-2 reds
The last 5 minutes was a lesson in keep ball by reds, continuously passing and moving, stretching play out wide with blacks chasing shadows and ultimately this led to Alan completing his hat-trick 5-2 reds
Colin gets to pick again for Thursday, so good luck to whoever he’s opposing
Seans Summary
It was another steamy, scorcher of a morning at the Polideportivo in Benalmadena. But a fearless troupe of footballing misfits once again showed up to display their lack of skills and ability.
Brian took control of the whistle for the morning. Agreeing to take directions and abuse from all present. Well at least from Bambi and Dave Rabbit.
The game which was a 6 v 6 affair kicked off with Red controlling the ball lead by the Hooverboard Kevo from the back. But Black slowly began to find their groove. With Terry orchestrating from the back, Glyn and Nev put on the high press supported by Dave Rabbit, running down every ball in the middle, on the wing and at the back.
Martyn up front was very industrious if nothing else he Nev and Glyn combined to set up Dave Rabbit who’s shot found the back of the net for the first goal of the morning 1-0 for Reds.
Whether spurred on by Bambi’s verbal utterances, which I doubt, or a desire to not loose to a team anchored by H in the Black goal.Reds absorbed the Pressure from Black and put together some counterattacks. Which broke down usually due to a lack of passing skills or exhausted legs.
Finally in the 3rd period a long pass forward, from I am not running it’s just my short legs, Daz found their star striker Ken alone and he slotted home with his usual finesse.
The game trickled back and forth and side to side. Ballboys were kept on their toes by Glyn, Nev and Martyn for Black and by Daz, Sean, Bambi and Ken for Red.
Geoff in goal for Black, I hate to say it, got some appendage of his body in front of several shots preventing Reds taking the lead on several occasions.
In the 4th period a screechier of a shot from Dave Rabbit beat Daz in the Reds goal 2-1 Black. Again urged on by Kevo, Reds pushed forward looking for an equalizer. The big man Graham was holding things down at the back. His nimble dancing feet making intricate passes and a few wayward shots.
At the other end chances were squandered by both set of attackers. Ken for Reds and Martyn for Black seemed determined to destroy the side netting of the respective goals.
At still 2-1 Blacks, in the 5th period. Glyn got a shot on target and to everyone’s surprise, produced a finger tip save from Bambi who guided the ball over the crossbar.
A corner to Blacks blasted across the goal by Dave Rabbit was volleyed into the top of the net by Nev. 3-1 Blacks,
Red hopes of glory appeared to have been finally crushed. But Kevo to the rescue. A fine run/ walk up the middle of the sacred ground and a beautifully placed pass to Daz, I am not running, who placed the ball in the lower corner out of the reach of Geoff at full stretch. 3-2 to Blacks.
With seconds remaining on Brian’s clock. After the kick off Big Graham won the ball back for Reds and his nimble feet placed a pass to Kevo. Kevo surged forward and found Sean up front. Unfortunately Sean’s delicately placed pass to an on rushing Daz miss judged the speed Daz’s legs could carry him along.
The chance to equalize was squandered.
