Match Report 1 from your virtual correspondent, AI Addio

9 blacks started against 10 reds, the game waiting for Dave, who had got lost between Timbuktu and the Poli, and unsurprisingly, the reds scored first, but from an unusual source Fred. Unfortunately, Fred was playing for the blacks!

Dave turned up, having travelled more miles than Neil Armstrong, and was immediately added to the Red 10, making them a red 11. Against 9…. Maths obviously not a strong point for  the referee, Dave the fox.

After a water break, Dave managed, with the aid of removal of his socks and shoes, equalled the sides up and had an immediate effect with the Blacks equalising.

With all the players on the pitch, sometimes the game resembled the crowd scenes from the film, ‘The greatest story ever told’ and despite this some cracking one touch stuff was played.

Later in the 3rd period, Joe marked his return to walking football after a couple of years by scoring the second red goal, sending the Black keeper the wrong way. Unfortunately, like Fred Joe had a black shirt on as well.

Ref Dave the Fox kept good control of the game and despite the protestations of Bambi, the official referee, who was stood fully 50 yards away, gave a penalty to the Blacks for encroachment, which Ton buried with aplomb.

2-2 being the final score. Despite some (very) wayward shooting from both sides the game was played with a great deal of skill and despite the number of players, some skillful football. And all 4 goals being scored by a player in black.

The players retired to the bar for some well-earned refreshment and discussions on the rules of football and whether encroachment is a foul worthy of a penalty.

Onwards to Monday!

Game 2 – another busy day at the Poli saw a 7 v 7 match on pitch 2.. it was a beautiful warm sunny day for a game of walking footie..

The teams lined up

Blacks – Eddie in goal, Mark & Dave 👑 in defence, Daz, Alan & Majid in midfield, with Paul up top.

Reds Steve in goal, Colin, Dave 🚖 at the back, Alvin in the middle, with Glyn & Dave 🐝 on the flanks and Jim up front

The match day referee John

The reds started the strongest passing and moving well and should have been 3 up before the blacks got going…

The game then changed and the Blacks started to take their opportunities, something the reds failed to do !

Alan unleashed a pile driver… 1-0 Blacks

Majid twisted and turned through on goal 2-0

At last the reds hit the target… low and hard Jim reduced the arrears 2-1

A sweeping move by the blacks saw Daz smash the ball to the far post ! 3-1

Jim made it interesting exchanging passes with with Dave 🐝 and 🚖 before side footing passed Eddie 3-2 game on ?

The blacks however had more gas in the tank and as the reds tried to push forward, their attacks were stopped in the tracks by a solid defensive line… the balls out of defence started to catch the reds out leaving spare men across the blacks front line..

Daz again found time and space to slot his second of the game home… 4-2 blacks..

Paul then got on the score sheet with the goal of the game.. lurking unmarked at the back post Mark passed from the halfway line, it landed perfectly and Paul struck it first time into the top corner… 5-2..

Steve stepped out of gaol to try and get the reds moving, the score wasn’t reflecting the balance of the game, just the quality of finishing.. football eh !

Paul right place right time unmarked stroked in his second 6-2 Blacks! Game over the reds huffed and puffed but could beat Eddie who had another comfortable afternoon…

There were a number of outstanding players on both teams, but skill of the day fell to Mick Dundee (pitch 1) whilest retrieving a ball.. I observed Gaza Dundee take the ball first time from a swift pass, in one move swivelled 180 the ball now under his spell, he then back heeled the ball into the path of a team mate … 👌
