Match Report 1 from your virtual correspondent, AI Addio
On a cool, but bright day, with waves crashing on the shore, 20 gallant futbolistas, Dave the Ref, Apprentice ball boy Ton and Irelands answer to Speilberg, Frank, now returning from a long term injury gathered at the hallowed halls of the polideportivo to reenact the long lost tradition of kicking a pigs bladder on artificial grass.
With the game being played with great spirit and skill with load of one touch football, blacks conceded early to a goal from Martyn, despite being on top. However, some wayward shooting including shots threatening he solar panels on the roof of the bar, kept the blacks goal less.
Against the run of play, Kevo managed to equalise for the blacks but virtually straight from the restart, Ken scored the first of his brace, cooly passing into an empty net.
After the water break, Ken increased the red lead with a well taken second goal.
Kevo scored his, and the blacks second, from the penalty spot after one of the red players strayed into the penalty area.
After the last water break, it was pretty much all Blacks but their wayward shooting kept the final score at Reds 3, Blacks 2.
It was a game played according to the rules, with Dave the Ref being largely a spectator.
Mern of the match shared between Ton and Frank for their exceptional ball boy duties in the face of some bloody awful shooting.
Interesting fact, despite there being 34 players in the2 games, this was still only 25% of the membership of WFS.
Fezzes Findings on Match 2
Game 2 was 7 v 7 and the teams lined up as follows…
Blacks Steve in goal, Fez, Sean, Micky, Colin, Glyn & Alan.
Reds Eddie in goal, Darren, Mark, Jim, Paul, Dave & Daz.
Your referee was John.
The game kicked off in warm sunshine with a light breeze and both teams passed the ball well, but it was the blacks that made more impact going forward with several good goal scoring opportunities spurned by both Micky and Fez..
Sean & Colin marshalled by Steve defended stoutly stopping Darren and Jim reducing them to long range efforts.
Colin burst forward and shot towards goal, the ball was deflected into the path of Alan who volleyed it goal bound into the roof of the net..
1-0 Blacks
The score soon double as Fez found some space away from Dave & Mark and unleashed a rocket into the net…
2-0 Blacks
The reds were slowly finding there groove building from the back playing some good football… Steve had his defence and midfield matching the movement, with Colin & Sean winning tackles, Glyn & Alan working tirelessly up and down the flanks, Mick dropping back to nullify the Reds..
The reds stepped up with Mark picking passes through the Blacks picking out Jim, Paul and Darren… Daz was a menace on both flanks exposing the space..
Dave took advantage and walked through the centre received a ball to feet spun on a six pence and was through on goal, he kept his nerve and found the back of the net… game on !
2-1 Blacks.
Unfortunately for the Blacks Fez’s injuries 🫣 resurfaced and the Blacks were all but a man down..
The Reds had their tails up and whilst searching for an equaliser left some gaps..The Blacks managed to creat a couple of decent chances, Fez put Mick through on goal but he couldn’t hit the target.. Alan made a plethora of good moves into space and had Fez gone left Alan would have at least tested Eddie if not have left the net bulging (soz Al)
Darren was having a good old tussle with Colin and a swift move finally ended with the ball hitting the back of the net… Paul & Jim exchanged passes the ball was slipped to Darren who hit it first time… goal…
2-2
Glyn managed to get forward with the ball and Micky had a glorious chance to put the Reds back in front but he poked the all wide of the post.. Eddie sporting a new goatie was having one of his more quiet days between the sticks..
Steve playing as a sweeper conceded a penalty, fractionally outside his box he reacted to a high ball 😉 and the ref pointed to the spot ! Jim stepped up and after some mind games his tame shot was diverted for a corner…
The Reds were on top but the Blacks ‘6’ worked their socks off and the game looked to be heading for a draw.. Some neat football saw the ball rolled across the Blacks box and a paddy punt that won the game…after all it was St Patrick’s day earlier in the week.. ☘️
Some said Daz had enetered the box, but the ref John was having none of it and the goal stood !
3-2 Reds.. Another enjoyable game with some good football played in a good spirit.. the teams retired to the bar for refreshments and a debrief on the pros and cons of the game.. good fun as always… Fez now injured again has offered to be linesman next time out 👀 on the boxes for any encroachment 😬
MOM – There were some great performances today..
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Colin outstanding against Darren
⭐️⭐️ Mark commanded the Reds defence very progressive ball play
⭐️ Sean dropped in at last minute made a lot of blocks and broke up numerous attacks
Special mention to Alan who worked his socks off back to front for the Blacks, Dave and Daz for the Reds worked very effectively either side of Mark
