Fezs Findings

All players observed a minutes silence for the lives lost in the train crash last Sunday.

For a second week running there were a few last minute changes to the line ups, which also changed at half time !

The reds lined up with Steve 📢 in goal still building up his match fitness, John ⚡️, Alvin, Tim, Tommy, Colin, Han & Steve 🎸

The blacks had Eddie between the sticks, Mark, Prak, Dave 🚖, Steve 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿, Alan, Dave 🐝, Lawrence & Fez

Your match day referee was once again the ever balanced John 🚒.

Due to a late drop out the blacks had the numerical advantage and they played some good football knocking the ball along the back, probing through the midfield and getting a number of shots on target..

Steve made a number of good saves, Colin and Tommy combined well at the back making a plethora of interceptions preventing the blacks from taking the lead.

The reds mounted their own attacks with Tim, Steve 🎸, Han, Alvin and John passing and moving to create a number of half chances and long range shots! Eddie stayed alert and managed to stopped all efforts on target…

The blacks finally broke the deadlock Prak and Mark played a number of passes across the back line, Steve 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 passed the ball forward to Dave 🚖, Lawrence took over and found Fez on the left a short pass inside and Dave 🐝 hit the target… Steve 📢 looked to have it covered, but the ball squirmed from his grasp and spun between his legs and over the line (just) 1-0 Blacks.

Soon after the blacks doubled their lead Mark hit a ball to Fez who rolled it into Alan’s feet, he took a touch and smashed the ball passed Steve 📢..
2-0 blacks !

Both teams continued to play some good football but the defences held firm and were overall on top of any goal scoring opportunities…

30 minutes played and Steve 🎸 was struggling with a swollen knee and had to stop playing.. The reds now down 2 players, Fez was moved to the reds who were losing 2-0..

The Balcks still had a numerical advantage, but the reds now started to string some good moves together, the blacks were still the better team, but couldn’t add to their 2 goal advantage..

Han found some space for a shot, under server pressure his shot squirmed to Fez who made no mistake with his first time effort…

2-1 blacks.

The reds continued to push for an equaliser and almost had it when Fez went one on one with Eddie, but the verteran keeper stayed big and pushed out his left foot as the ball headed towards the goal, diverting it for a corner !

The Balcks were still dangerous on the break and Steve 📢 had to stay alert to keep the reds in it…

It was getting frantic and a tad physical although the players stayed within the ‘spirit of the game’ owning up to final touches, tackles and high balls… an easy day for the ref John… well apart from the odd player breaking into a jog 😜.

The Balcks were feeling the heat and tried to run the clock down as the reds pushed for the equaliser..

With minutes turning into seconds Fez managed to lay the ball into the path of John ⚡️who took one touch and smashed it into the top corner bringing the scores level at 2-2.

It was well deserved as the reds played with a player less through out the game and worked hard as a team… they almost snatched the game at the death when Han had the ball rolled into his path and he let fly, Eddie said he knew it was going wide as he was rooted to the spot, everyone breathed in as it whistled the wrong side of the post !

Well done to all the players, some great one touch and move football, it was an enjoyable game with every player contributing making it another great week of footie at the Poli… The last two Thursday’s ending 2-2… so onto the final week of January, see you all next week. UTB ⚽️

Daves Decisions

All players mustered for the obligatory photo call before hhe games started and then stood for 1 minute of silence in respect of those who lost their lives and some still fighting for their lives, following the train crash near Cordoba.

Game 1 started with what appeared to be balanced sides.
In the 1st quarter Boris looked strong in defence. His few games in Game 2 must have sharpened his sences.
Robert had a good shot on goal saved well by Ton.
With some good play by both sides, the first quarter ended nil nil.
Into the 2nd quarter. Ken had his toe poke strike on goal saved well by Alan.
Paulo in Red picked up a stray ball from the blacks and tucked it nicely into the goal.
Reds. 1 nil
Bambi immediately tried to respond only for Ton to get his left knee in the way to stop the goal.
Ken cored a goid goal for the Reds. He received the ball. Jinked past the defender with neat fast feet and slotted the ball past the on rushing Mick Dundee. The Reds go two nil up.
The Blacks were now applying pressure to the reds goal. Ton stood strong. Dave Owl hit the cross bar and then had another attempt blocked by Klaus.
Into the 3rd quarter it was still 2 nil to the Reds.
Ian the Measurement Scientist picked up a ball and thread it through the needles eye to Fish. Fish placed the ball past a static Mick Dundee.
Reds 2-1 .
The game was now end to end both sides pressing for a goal. Could the Reds go back to a 2 goal lead or could the Blacks make it all square.
The Reds struck. Good play between Robert and Paulo led to Robert hitting a ball into the bottom left corner of the goal giving the keeper no chance.
The Reds go 3-1 up.
Again the Blacks pushed forwards seeking a goal. They had plenty attempts but a mixture of wild shots and saves by Ton, the Blacks started to fade.
The Reds go 4-1 up with a easy goal by Klaus.
But still the Blacks pushed forwards. Two great blocks by Klaus stopped a certain goal for the Blacks.
Final score. Reds 4 Blacks 1.
The only contentious moment of the match was at the end of the 3rd quarter. With nice movement from the Reds. Robert was about unleash a shot on goal. As he was about to shoot. The ref, who it must be said, had a wonderful game (Dave 🦊) blew the whistle for a water break. Robert just glared at the ref. 🤷🏼‍♂️
