A delayed match day due to the bank holiday which led to 2 small 5 a-side games and a new set of rules and no videos sadly, how did it go?
Over to the refs.
Keith played and ref’d his game:
A good game on pitch 1 the final score was 4-3 to the reds Dazza scoring all 4. Sean got 1 for the blacks with Graham getting 2.
First game with the new rules and from a refereeing perspective it was easy to manage. One or two of the fitter players were penalised for running and there was a couple of tackles but nothing that was a problem.
It’s was also noticeable that some of the players pulled out of trying to win face to face tackles allowing a game to flow. It’s good to see players like Fred Harding being confident enough to call for the ball and being allowed to play.
If Kevo has the numbers and can balance the teams on Monday I’d like to play with you again. Thanks boys.
Colin was thrown into the lions den of game 2 which ended 9-5 to the reds (I think) most players scored and a number missed sitters 😅
Let’s be honest this is the “faster game” so there was some dissent around the running infringements that were pulled up at times.
As the ref you try to let the game flow, if the ball is going out anyway or no advantage is gained then I didn’t blow, however as we have just published the rules there were demands to see them applied fully so as the game progressed I was blowing up more.
I think 5 aside creates more space and more opportunities to run, so it’s up to the players not to, the ref can only apply the rules
Goals were disallowed and a penalty given plus possibly a dubious goal to the blacks from around the halfway line that could have been chalked off as well. Did everyone enjoy the game, mostly yes.
We resume on Monday with larger teams and less space to run into
