Time until the Next game at Benalmadena Polideportivo

Match report by Geoff

REDS ….2 versus BLACKS….0

On a cold and blustery winter Monday morning in torrential rain some 18 brave footballers turned up at the Polideportivo for a game.

Their enthusiasm was rewarded should they wish with a free cup of hot coffee before the game which most gratefully  accepted.

A nine aside match was played on the furthest pitch from the clubhouse exposing the players even more so  to the strong wind, albeit by the time they kicked off the rain had thankfully stopped and the sun came out.

The Reds took an early lead with an opportunist goal from the owl. 1-0 to Reds.

The wind was making life difficult for the players to control the ball, however both teams nevertheless tried to keep the ball low on the astroturf, occasionally showing some nice touches despite the wind.

Several times during this session strong gusts of wind blew the smaller type goalposts over, thus necessitating the game to be stopped.

1-0 to Reds at the break.

At the beginning of the second session old stager Ken managed to control the ball to slot past Dave B in the Blacks goal to put the Reds further in front. 2-0 to Reds.

Highlight of this session was when Keef refereeing albeit still playing had to be given a replacement whistle due to the  Paracetamol he was sucking disappearing  inside it whilst blowing for an infringement.

2-0 to Reds at the break.

At the beginning of the third session Ken thought he had scored again only for it to be disallowed much to his disgust for encroachment into the opposition goal area.

During this session ‘Fish’ was heard to remark that he thought he had gone deaf, only to then realise that Bambi hadn’t turned up and that this was the reason!

No goals during this and the last session with the wind undoubtedly the victor, this despite the valiant efforts of all taking part in the match.

FT 2-0 to Reds.

Most if not all then retired to the bar for refreshments.
