Slow Match Report by Geoff
REDS ….7 v BLACKS….5
A warm welcome back to Walter our oldest member at 81 years of age from his jaunts around Cape Verde and Africa supporting his many good causes.
He is undoubtedly an exceptional, albeit slightly eccentric individual, walking to every session at the Polideportivo in the Pueblo from Torremolinos and then back again after a game of walking football.
On yet another hot autumnal morning at the Polideportivo, in what turned out to be a high scoring 5 a-side game for the old farts, the Reds took an early lead when Paulo in the Blacks goal had a senior moment deciding to head the ball giving away a penalty from which Bambi easily slotted the ball home. 1-0 to the Reds.
Just before the end of the first quarter, a delightful long pass from the Owl found goal poacher Ken unmarked who with ease put the ball into the back of the Blacks net.
2-0 to the Reds at the much needed statutory first water break.
On the resumption a long cross field pass from Paulo, which went some way to make up for his earlier error, found new boy Chris to score reducing the deficit to 2-1.
A few minutes later Chris got his second with a tremendous low shot from distance which Gooner Fred never saw until he was picking the ball out from the back of the Reds net to equalise. Try as he might for the rest of the game Chris couldn’t score his first ever hat-trick at the Poli.
On 25 minutes Nigel put the Reds back in front with a deft curling shot leaving Fish in goal clutching fresh air.
3-2 at the break to the Reds.
The third session began with the Blacks pressing for an equaliser when the Owl, seeing Klaus playing rush goalie for the Blacks well out of his goal, cleverly guided an exquisite shot from 30 yards into the empty net. 4-2 to the Reds.
Two more quick goals from the Owl and Nigel the latter with a 30 yarder made the score 6-2 before Klaus reduced the deficit to 6-3 before the last water break.
For the last session Nigel and Walter changed sides in an endeavour to level things up, the former almost immediately went on to chip the ball over Bambi in the Reds goal making for an exciting finale to the match.
Klaus for the Blacks, for some reason, decided to head a clearance giving away a penalty which the Owl tucked away with ease. 7-4 to the Reds thereby killing off any chance of a Blacks recovery.
In the closing seconds Bambi gave away a penalty following an abusive rant after disagreeing with a decision by the referee. The Owl made no mistake with his shot making the final score 7-5 to the Reds.
Most then enjoyed some much needed refreshment on the balcony overlooking the pitch.
As the owl’s 🦉 wife, I’m happy to renegotiate the yearly payroll and increase it as he scores a lot!
Great report Commander..We’ll played boys and welcome back Walter.
