Benalmadena….7 versus Tyler Walkers FC….5

A warm welcome was given on Friday to our visitors from Coventry at the Polideportivo for our 9 aside amateur International match.

Unfortunately, the Sky Blues goalkeeper had to pull out at the last minute due to a recurrence of an old leg injury, so our visitors started the match with only 8 men and to make matters even worse another of their players pulled up with a leg muscle strain after 15 minutes having to go off injured.

In view of our visitors claiming none of them had ever  played walking football, the rules were explained to them before kick off.

Despite only starting with 8 men the visitors nevertheless showed that most if not all had played to a good level of amateur football in the past none more so than the ever dangerous Deano, who at 42 years of age being the baby of there team as opposed to Boris at 77 years and several others not much younger for the home team.

It was no surprise therefore when Deano put the Sky Blues in front with a terrific shot from distance past Fish in the home goal.

With a numerical advantage albeit against a younger team Garry equalised after 10 minutes and shortly afterwards Breck hit a superb shot from some 30 yards out making it 2-1 to the hosts.

Then Bambi made it 3-1 just before the first water break following some excellent inter passing between himself and airline pilot Garry.

Suitably refreshed after the water break the Sky Blue Boys hit back with two quick goals to level the score with goals from Rob and Deano, the latter hitting a superb lob from distance.

By now Rick who had turned up to watch the match in flip flops guested in goal for the visitors and despite still being a player down they nevertheless showed tremendous resilience taking the lead through Matt.

4-3 to the Sky Blues.

Breck then scored his second goal of the match making it all square at 4 apiece.

Early in the third session Garry who was outstanding for the home team scored a terrific individual goal making it 5-4.

On the 40 minute mark Breck scored his hat-trick following a fortunate deflection off Bambi, albeit the latter as is his want claimed an assist. 6-4 to Benalmadena.

By now the sun was breaking through the clouds and our visitors not being acclimatised only arriving the day before and one man short understandably began to wilt a little.

On 47 minutes after the last water break Han scored for the hosts following a quickly taken free kick by man of the match Garry. 7-4 to Benalmadena.

Fittingly in what had been a high scoring game  organiser JC scored the last goal of the match for the visitors.

FT: 7-5 to Benalmadena.

For the hosts Eddie was as ever his tricky self ably supported by captain Kevo and Breck.

The visitors to a man put up a tremendous effort and should they return next year as promised will undoubtedly be better prepared and looking for revenge!
