Geoff hangs up his boots!

At Tribute to “The Man”

Shock news as Human Rights Geoff is forced to hang up his truncheon.

As many of you will know, the medics have finally called time on lifelong sportsman and the scourge of criminals and terrorists Geoff “The Commander” Holmes. A lifetime of rugby league, golf and football (well you have plenty of free time when you’re a copper) has finally taken its toll on walking football stalwart and professional northerner Geoff. Sport hurts! After suffering hamstring twang, knee knack and back gah! He’s decided to hang up his Adidas Team leather boots and take up his new role of Director of Football, match reporter and mediocre referee. I for one will be delighted to welcome Geoff onto the WFS football reporters’ desk.

We all know Keef (he used to be someone) was the energy behind walking football, but Geoff joined him over past few years to keep the game we all know and love on the road. They formed a really great partnership, looking after the money, and ensuring there was a fantastic social side to the club. They made sure that the rest of us just had to turn up and kick a ball. Seriously folks, you can’t underestimate just how difficult it is to keep the walking football roadshow going.

With the build of a prop forward, Geoff was an imposing presence on the pitch, and there was only going to be one winner if you ever ran into him. So, it’s with some sadness that we have to bid farewell to his silky passing and moving brand of footie. However, the great news is that he’s still going to be there to give us a joyful abusive greeting when we sign in and pay our dues on a Monday and Thursday. I know you’ll all want to join me in offering commiserations to Geoff on his sporting retirement, but the great news is he’ll still be around to support Breck and help keep our brand of walking football as vibrant as ever. Cheers Geoff.
