Time until the next game at Benalmadena Polideportivo
Match report by Steve
Strawberries 4 Blackcurrants 5
The forecast rain stayed away long enough for todays kickabout to go ahead outdoors to everybody’s delight.
Keith welcomed back WF stalwarts Boris and Pete (pirate) for todays match prior to Kick Off.
Both teams took a while to get going but in all fairness whoever picked the sides had ensured two equally matched sides. The reds took the lead through a goal from Colin, then just before the half hour mark a well placed, low angled shot from Dave made it 2-0.
Meanwhile Jess in goal for the reds was stopping everything that came his way – top keeper. After the break the blacks stepped up their efforts to get back into the game and goals from Al and Maurice brought them level just before the second water break.
The reds now found themselves a man down as Martyn tweaked a calf muscle and had to withdraw from todays action. To sort of balance things up Breck took the whistle from Keith, allowing him to run around freely.
The blacks turned their numerical advantage into a a two goal advantage through goals from Al and Breck heading into the last water break. All the goals were stacking up in the last quarter of the match.
This trend continued as a renewed effort from the reds levelled the score at 4-4 with goals from Keef and Dave.
With minutes remaining Terry, still a bit ring rusty from his extended sojourn in Brummagem, was put clean through on goal but Jess stood firm to block his rather tame effort.
Late winners have also been a recent trend here at the Poli and big Al held off a robust (illegal?) challenge from Keef to win the game for the blacks 5-4.
A cracking match to start the week and as the WF warriors sampled the beers upstairs the rain began to fall on the terrace outside…serendipity indeed
