Time until the next game at Benalmadena Polideportivo
Match report by Steve C
Red Cherries – 6 Black Berries – 5
Apologies for the late posting of this report but with all the excitement going on at present, it got a bit overlooked.
Thursday was yet another exceptionally breezy day and not conducive to skilful play. Nevertheless the “remain in Spainers” served
up an 11-goal festive feast of goals.
After Kev’s Rovvrum warm-up, the match kicked off with Keith in charge of the whistle and also playing for the reds. The first 30 minutes was relatively close as the reds edged in front 2-1 through 2 goals from Dave the owl.
Gary pulled one back for the berries. A noticeable feature of the first half was the outcome for any mis-hit pass (and there were a few!), as they accelerated, wind assisted, to the four corners of Poli.
A few of the more intelligent players thought that Keith should have instructed his ground staff to set up the pitch at the other end of the facility. Lesson learned I think, but I digress.
Into the second half and the reds began to assert control as they raced, no sorry strolled into a 5-2 lead.
Col the Manc, with a return to striker mode, notched 2. Dave got a third for his hat trick.
Somehow the berries got back into the game and a hat trick from Steve reduced the deficit to one.
The revival was short lived however, as up stepped the bold Boris to calmly stroke in what would ultimately be the winning goal.
With time running out, Geoff lad was played in and provided the biggest cheer of the day by finding the corner of the net. Get in!
With full time called the reds were worthy winners. As one of their opponents said “how in the name of the wee man did we just get beaten by one goal, it should have been a cricket score”. I’ll stop there no more cricket analogies for the time being.
Off to the bar and as the word of the week was “PARTY”, we had one courtesy of Keith as it was his birthday. Lovely food (no Hendos though!) and oodles of beer was consumed in honour of the birthday boy.
Steve Loasby dropped by to say hello but was collared by some irate players who were complaining about the performance of today’s ref. He said to leave it with him…I think the local under-7 league may be getting a new star ref. Come back on Monday and find out…see you then.
Who says the life of a WAG is all glamour, partying and shopping? Here’s a photo of Gary’s partner, Veronica, having a fight with the team tabards.
