Time until the next game at Benalmadena Polideportivo
Match report by Steve C
Blackcurrants – 3 Redcurrants – 5
An unusually chilly and breezy day at the Poli produced an intriguing and keenly fought encounter.
Both sides were nip and tuck throughout the game until the last 15 minutes when two goals for the reds secured their victory. Keith manfully refereed the match struggling at times with a misbehaving pea in his whistle!
In no particular order the guys on target for the reds were – Mick the cherry, Mike the arab, warm-up Kevo, Alan and Breck.
All these goals were special in their own right but Alan’s strike from a tight angle, on his last outing, prior to returning to stormswept Aberdeen, was the pick of the bunch.
The scorers for the losers were Alvin, John and Steve. A couple of these were shots of such beauty that perhaps should have counted as two, but Keith wasn’t buying it.
The blacks captain for the day, Terry urged and cajoled his team throughout the game and the outcome of the match may have been different if the bar (twice) and the post hadn’t intervened.
The reds defence, marshalled by Bob on his penultimate WF outing, also deserves a mention for their blockade of the red forwards.
In addition, when breached their goalie(s) made some class saves. In particular hirsute Dave, who heeded Keith’s advice that ‘its all very well diving like a swallow but a goalie needs to get the ball as well’ to heart as he made a top save low down at the post.
Game over for today but we have Thursday’s jamboree to look forward to. See you then.
