Time until the next game at Benalmadena Polideportivo
Match Report by Steve C
A lovely sunny morning at the Poli provided an idyllic backdrop to Kevo’s first modelling assignment, the eagerly awaited new team bibs.
I’m glad to report there will be no time for navel gazing when these bad boys are brought into use. Just for the record I preferred the slinky black one, the one that made Kevo look like that chap from the Stranglers back in ’77, ah the peaches!
Warm-up completed, team photo snapped and introduction to debutant Jason.Welcome to the WF circus; the show that never ends.
An unofficial early kick-off was instigated by today’s ref Steve.
By the time James arrived (10.58) to be the 10th lemon, the oranges were one goal to the good.
Then before James had fully warmed up their lead had increased through Max’s first goal on his return.
The lemons encouraged by Keith began to string some passes together and pulled one back. Jason’s first strike, get in!
The lemon’s equaliser a few minutes later will be remembered for years on the Emerald Isle. Many a glass of the black stuff will be raised in salute to Dazza who outfoxed the Sheriff in goal by feigning a stumble which was followed by a sclaffed shot which sneakily rolled into the net. Not a goal of the month contender I’m afraid.
A further goal a piece brought the score to 3-3.
At this point in the match Max began to really trouble the lemons defence and added a couple to his tally for the day.
Keith now played a blinder by bringing Dave out from goal to mark Max. Dave, who had spent many a year watching the silky skills of Terry Hurlock and Graeme Roberts at Ibrox, did well in his new role but couldn’t prevent the oranges from taking a 6-3 lead into the fifth period of play.
The ref, who apart from a controversial yellow card for Boris, had a pretty decent game in letting it flow, now provided a 12-minute left warning to the teams.
Throwing caution to the wind, the lemons tried to get back into the game. Following a stramash in the orange defence they nicked a fourth goal. This was followed a couple of minutes later by a cracking 30-yard up and under from Daz. I’m pleased to report that this one will be a contender. (See the banter site to vote for this month’s winner).
The lemons tried to equalise but ran out of time in their efforts. Full Time: Lemons 5 Oranges 6.
Thus, October’s eventful series of games ends and we will begin a new month of games on Tuesday as the Polideportivo is closed for yet another Spanish holiday on the Monday. watch WhatsApp for any changes!
After today the big question is whether the Disciplinary Committee will overturn Boris’ appeal against today’s yellow card. Let’s hope the Sheriff is in a good mood. See you all then.
