Time until the next game at Benalmadena Polideportivo

FAREWELL MY LOVELY (Retamar)

Match Report by Steve C

Normal service, weather wise, greeted the players on their last day at the Retamar.

A late call off by our favourite restaurateur provided a 9 v 8 encounter for today’s game. Get a good rest big man,  we all know how difficult it is burning the candle at both ends.

Kevo led the group through the warm up which was followed by the obligatory group photo.

Welcome Colin who hooked up with the group after a period of more than 2 years.

KICK OFF The oranges realised they were going to be outgunned today and quickly raised their energy levels to counter the threats posed by marauding Max, Mike and Simon for the lemons.

Their “shoot on sight” strategy paid dividends as they built up a 5-1 lead after 20 minutes.

After the water break the lemons revised their game plan, pinning the oranges back in their own half using their numerical advantage. This strategy was successful and following some disarray in the orange defence they led after 40mins by 8-6.

The oranges got down to business once more and managed to get their noses in front to lead 9-8.

To compete against the lemons today the oranges had to push the envelope of WF rules to the max.

This created a few flashpoints with the referee and a couple of spats between the players from both sides. Thankfully no injuries were reported and I think both sets of players enjoyed the competitive edge to the game.

FULL TIME, lemons 13 oranges 11. For the lemons John, Kevo and Colin all scored 2 a piece, Simon got a hat trick and Max got 4. For the oranges Graham got his first 2 WF goals and Glyn, Alan, Steve and Brian were the other scorers.

With players temperatures returned to normal after the competitive encounter chat focused on the move back to the Polideportivo from next week.

A long session appeared to be on the cards until Keith and Bob were lured away by their better halves.

Discussion then moved onto matters of Law and Order. Unfortunately your intrepid reporter was slapped by a List D notice from the UK Government which prevents me from reporting the juicy details discussed. Come along on Monday to the Deportivo and you might find out.
