Last night, Blues v Whites in a 7 aside match at Benahavis turned into a bit of a GOALFEST ⚽️⚽️⚽️ as both sides went toe to toe in a pulsating and often frenetic match.

There was no hint of that in the opening exchanges though, as both teams probed patiently to find an opening. Greg who was making his first appearance in almost a year opened the scoring for the Whites on a welcome return to action 1-0 but by the break, new boy Kieran made it 1-1 with a well taken effort.

I don’t know what happened to the defences in the 2nd quarter, as 6 goals were scored in the space of 12 minutes! Bill who was having a fine game rifled in 3 goals and John Barclay on a rare foray forward scored with a trademark 20 yarder into the top corner to make it 5-1 to the Whites…👊

Captain Rob Fitz rallied the Blues and leading by example, scored two crackers to make it 5-3 at the end of the second quarter.

On the resumption, the goals just kept coming and at times it resembled a basketball game 🤷‍♂️ The Whites ran rampant as the Blues kept giving the ball away in their own half! Rob England gratefully snapped up a hatrick as did James Quinn and with Greg getting his second of the evening, the Whites now led 12-3, surely no team could come back from there could they….🤔

Tony Cifaldi had other ideas and the Chairman pulled one back to end the 3rd quarter and make the score 12-4.

Something had to change and so Greg swapped sides and immediately showed his class by putting 3 past Doug and with Keiran getting his second on the night, it was now 12-8 at the end of the 4th quarter.

In the 5th and final quarter 🥴 Blues continued to dominate as the Whites ran out of steam and with further goals from Kieran, Greg (again 🙄) Popeye and Mr Chairman, the Blues completed what was arguably the best comeback since Lazarus to make the final score 12-12!

With a score like that you would be forgiven for thinking that the goalkeepers must have been awful but the truth is they both pulled off some tremendous saves to keep the score down to double figures…🤣

Sorry if you are reading this and didn’t get a mention but I can assure you, your presence was noted and appreciated 👍

Popeye’s Man of the Match vote went to James Quinn who ran (I mean walked) tirelessly for the Whites, a true box to box midfielder with an eye for goal….well done James 👏👏👏

We all retired to the bar for post match beers and banter……..that’s the quickest I have seen John “Killie” Barclay move in the two years I have known him!
