Well that was some session and I’m not referring to the game nor the “apres fitba” banter and drinks time.
Time to cool down and reflect.
As the only spectator (Scott being busy trying to officiate),I was unaware that the game was as against the spirit of Walking Football as has been suggested.
Yes there was some running – hasn’t that ever been so. As always there was a feisty tackle or two – again always between participants of comparable fitness and maturity and I can only recall one short lived unsavoury incident.
As the man with the wooden leg says it’s a matter of opinion and the happenings at a football match are very much subject to differing viewpoints. How often do we comment “I was at a different match” ?
Unfairly, and unjustifiably the spotlight has been turned on one member. Although he is unquestionably big enough and ugly enough to stand up for himself, it was pleasing to see the many supportive comments on his behalf.
Age is an irrelevance on this particular occasion. How many times does Scott have to apologise for his once accepting an under-age recruit?
Incidentally, over the years, without naming names there have been other under 50’s participating in WFS at other than Calahonda sessions.
Where do we go from here? It’s time to cool down and reflect and yes we need to further discuss adherence to the rules and spirit of Walking Football without spoiling the enjoyment of the overwhelming majority of participating Calahonda members.
Oh the match….Well 8 Blacks beat 9 Reds in what at the time seemed a very enjoyable, close and competitive game. Indeed that was the unanimous view of everyone over the post-match drinks.
