CALAHONDA 4 versus BENALMADENA 2

Yesterday the weather remained fine at Finca Naundrup despite the pessimistic forecast for the return fixture of the ‘friendly’ rivalry of the ‘Old Fart’s.

On the day the more experienced and organised Calahondan’s were worthy winners, this after a somewhat cautious start by both teams.

Calahonda eventually took the lead after some poor defending by the Benalmadena defence when the ball fell to England over 70’s veteran,Dasher, to take full advantage and score.

A few minutes later,Benalmadena equalised with a flowing passing move between H, Kevo and Pete🐠, the latter putting the ball on the plate for newcomer Mick 🍒 to put in the back of Col the Mancs net, much to his displeasure!

Again, poor defending by the boys from the PoliDeportivo allowed Dasher to score the second of his three goals.

Subsequently, Calahonda went 3-1 up with Dasher getting his hat-trick, Benalmadena then made, what looked like might well be, a come back with a second individual goal by their best player Kevo.

This however turned out not to be the case when Tony J, the industrious midfielder for Calahonda,  shot in a low volley from distance into the bottom of Dave the🦉net giving him no chance.

Despite their best efforts Benalmadena in the closing stages were unable to reduce the deficit with goalkeeper Col the Manc resorting to time wasting tactics. No surprise there then knowing who he supports!

It was good to see Dasher in fine form following his recent illness with COVID-19, this despite him being a constant thorn in the backside for his opponents.

From the original WFS group, only Fred played in the match with the only other survivor Keef managing Benalmadena from the touch line.

The match was refereed by KDN in his usual relaxed style, this despite only finding his whistle as the match drew to a close! No wonder there were hardly any free kicks!

As could only be expected, the hosts supplied a copious amount of refreshments with Keef making sure his team definitely won in this department!

In the bar area afterwards a reluctant H presenting the Jim King Trophy to Robin in the afternoon sun.

Not surprisingly Robin had to have his arm twisted by ‘H’ before leaving after settling the account to buy another jug of beer🍺. Old habits as a Scot are hard to change. Much to his credit Nick was the last Calahondan to last the pace!
