Oranges 7 Yellows 4
Due to the anticipated bad weather and for once Keef’s excellent forward planning the match on Thursday was played in the superb gymnasium at the PoliDeportivo.
This for many of the players was the first time they had used this excellent facility with some. None more so than Kevo having difficulty keeping their feet on the different surface to that of the astroturf.
Billed as the Old farts’ ( yellows) versus Young Boy’s (oranges) and after a slow start the old timers more than held their own, particularly in the last 20 minutes which will hopefully stand them in good stead for the local derby match next week against Calahonda.
Outstanding for the Orange’s was Steve, with four goals, who was no doubt trying to improve his chances of making the team for the derby match!
The latter took full advantage of teammate Keef’s usual biased refereeing by constantly running and apparently not realising he was playing walking football!
A warm welcome to Paul, who despite warnings to take it easy on his WFS. debut, nevertheless, still managed to injure his groin, however gritting his teeth he played on finishing the match in goal for the Oranges.
Also for the young un’s, Alan L made a welcome and cautious return following recent surgery on both his knees, displaying his usual deft touches with the ball, he along with Steve and Keef scored the other goals for the Oranges .
Kevo, when not doing pirouettes, was the best for the old farts, scoring twice. Bob and David L adding the others.
The ever improving Pete along with Dave L and Mick more than held their own against the younger ‘upstarts’!
Finally, some of you may have read Keef’s earlier plea for everyone to bring a few beers to the PoliDeportivo having being told the bar wouldn’t be open.
Obviously this being Spain, was not the case and the bar was indeed actually open. However not being a drinker or a shopper, the Commander in error brought a pack of Sin Alcohol cervezas, much to the disgust of Keef, who nearly collapsed when taking his first sip.
Needless to say no other cans were opened!
