Time until the Next game at Benalmadena Polideportivo

Match report by Geoff

Just the one 9 aside match on a hot Spring Monday morning with Breck trying a slightly different format in an endeavour to play the game at the pace walking football is meant to be played.

To this end players could only score from within the penalty area without entering the goal area, colloquially know as the 6 yard box.

Using the small goals and playing rush keepers this most certainly meant the game was played at a slower pace, with the exception of several usual suspects.

Old stager Ken gave the Reds an early lead scoring when his shot rebounded off the post, only for him then to easily slot the ball into an empty net.

Ken was later heard to remark on the balcony, when having a beer, that this was a deliberate skill just to show everyone he had lost none of his old showboating skills, this despite reaching the age of 80 in a few days time.

1-0 at break.

In an evenly matched 2nd session there was no score with the majority of the players adapting easily to the change in format and playing some excellent 3 touch football.

In the third session Fireman Sam must have misplaced his whistle or broken his watch as he played about 25 minutes without a water break.

During this period the Reds were awarded a penalty for a foul, Ken full of confidence after scoring earlier hit a blaster straight at Olaf our German friend in the Blacks goal which he easily saved.

Within seconds of this miss Dave M had a kamikaze moment deciding to go for a stroll in his own goal area (6 yard box). Up stepped the old stager once again making no mistake this time toe poking a blaster past Olaf in the Blacks goal. 2-0 to Reds.

Olaf then made a fine save off Dazza before the latter was eventually sin binned for persistent running.

In fairness Dazza does have a problem in this regard as his somewhat large frame regularly  catapults him forward at speed. He nevertheless seemed to enjoy his short break to take on some water and get his breath back.

The latter undoubtedly needs a lesson from Keef in how to ghost run as he never seems to gets pulled up particularly when running into space.

In added last session in Dave scored a fine goal turning Keef now in goal on a sixpence to pull a goal back for the Blacks.

Killer Kevo, his new nick name after his success in winning the Killer Pool session at last Fridays social day controlled midfield for the Reds, likewise Ken with his two goals and some astute passing are worth a mention, as was Dave Cab’s performance for the Blacks.

Full time 2-1 to Reds

In the bar afterwardsBreck asked how everyone felt the changes he made went. There were a few negative comments, however there was a strong  opinion that penalties perhaps should be awarded rather than sin binning players.
