Time until the next game at Benalmadena Polideportivo
Match report by Geoff
REDS….7 versus BLACKS….1
Once again a 9 a-side match with the club motto ‘Spirit of the game’ again clearly forgotten by a few of the players, none more so than in the opening stages of the match.
Surely by now they should realise at their age in life it is not about winning at all costs and spoiling it for the majority by continually disputing the referee’s decisions in a vociferous and sometimes abusive manner.
As a consequence yellow and red cards will now be introduced in future games, no prizes for guessing the name of the favourite to be carded first.
Whilst the final score gives the impression of it being a totally one sided game this was not really so with Blacks bitterly regretting missed chances which came their way. The difference being our occasional guest Deano friend of the infamous Yoza who was on fire scoring 5 of the goals for the Reds causing mayhem to the Blacks defence whenever he had the ball.
The first quarter ended with the Reds 2 goals up both scored from the lethal boot of Deano, the latter goal following a poor clearance by the Bee in the Blacks goal, albeit the Blacks should have had a penalty when ‘Canadian’ Alan in the reds goal clearly stepped out of his goal area which went unpunished by Dave ‘M’ the debutant referee.
The second session was pretty even with both sides squandering chances to score ending with Ken scoring following an excellent through pass from Alvin making a welcome return after an injury to his shoulder.
3-0 to Reds.
The third quarter started with old stager Ken going off feeling unwell but not before leaving half of his breakfast on the pristine Poli astroturf.
Although now playing with a man short this did not deter hotshot Deano who extended the Reds lead with another two quick goals.
Not satisfied with this he then tried to lob Dazza in the Blacks goal to only see this fine physique of an athlete leap into the air to make an excellent save tipping the ball to safety off the post
5-0 to Reds.
The final session saw Deano score his fifth goal and Dave ‘Cab’ put a blaster past Sonic in who had bravely taken the gloves in the Blacks goal.
Fittingly Nigel scored a late consolation goal for the Blacks which was no more than they deserved although the final score does not reflect this.
Final score 7-1 to the Reds.
