Match Report by Steve C

THE BOYS are BACK in TOWN

With azure blue skies over the Retamar, the summer season stalwarts were joined by the return of compadres Kevo, Max, Bjarne and Simon.

A warm welcome to new member Russell was also conveyed by Keith.

Kick-off was delayed by the late arrival of the bus w***s and Keith’s inability to herd the group together for a match photo.

KICK OFF…
Both sides began cautiously, feeling their way on the largest pitch they had encountered for a few weeks. To be honest, early doors both teams struggled to find their shooting boots, even Steve who actually had new shooting boots!

After 20 minutes the deadlock was broken by Dazza, who accepted a pass on the right wing and crashed an unstoppable shot into the lemons net…1-0.

Dazza himself was so enthused by his goal he insisted that it feature in the match report, so here it is. He also said it might be a while before he scored another. True, as I can recall at least two other sitters he scorned later in the match.

To be fair to Daz, in the beer tent after the game a number of players from both sides remarked on the quality of his goal.

With Terry as playmaker- in-chief, the Tangerines moved further ahead through goals from Max, building up an overall 4 goal advantage with 20 mins left on the clock. At this point, with Terry visibly flagging, the lemons staged a comeback.

Keith finished off a wonderful passing move by firing a shot, which Mike thought he had pushed over the bar, but in fact just dropped in under the bar.

This was quickly followed by a wonderful penalty scored by Russ, high to the keepers left.

Two excellent goals by Eddie brought the sides equal for the first time since kick off. With minutes remaining the lemons who were now in the ascendency pushed for a winner. In their enthusiasm the lemons left the back door open and Simon and Max skipped through to make it 5-4. Try as they could the lemons could not find another equaliser and the match finished Tangerines 5 Lemons 4.

Beer tent banter. Once again, the jugs of beer ordered far exceeded the allocated budget. It was mooted that funding any future WF soiree would require the crew to carry out some kind of heist!

Apparently the Commander returns to the fold next week which coincidently is the 50th anniversary of the release of Led Zeppelin 4.

I wonder who he will choose to join him this year on the the Stairway to Heaven?
