MATCH REPORT – BENAHAVIS 15 JUNE by Popeye

WFS Benahavis put on their own version of Euro 2020 England v Scotland on Tuesday night at the Polideportivo.

In what was a closely fought and keenly contested encounter, the Scots led by Paul Braveheart Johnstone put the English to the sword with a 7-4 win!

Scotland were sharp from the outset and quickly established a 3-0 lead with a brace from John Barclay and a well taken effort from Greg Findlayson.

England fought back strongly with Andrew scoring from the penalty spot to make it 3-1 at the first break.

In the second period, fine saves from both goalkeepers , together with the woodwork maintained the status quo but nothing could stop Barclay from completing his hat trick and making it 4-1. Bill got one back for England to make it 4-2 at half time.

With rolling subs in an 8 a side match, England appeared disjointed and paid the penalty when Ciaran scored twice in quick succession and Barclay got his 4th on the night to make it 7-2.

England never surrender though and finished strongly in the final quarter with a well struck long range effort from Paul Rossiter and a goal from the England captain Rob Fitzgerald to make the final score 7-4

Both teams retired to the bar for the obligatory post match banter to end an enjoyable evening.
