Time until the Next game at Benalmadena Polideportivo
On Thursday, before the traditional photograph of teams playing at the Polideportivo were taken, Breck announced to everyone he would temporarily be standing down from his role as sessions organiser.
This to allow him time to recover from his recent heart attack, having spent a week in ICU in hospital.
He was hopeful that at some time in the future he would return to continue his his role within the club.
Naturally everyone was saddened by such news and wished him a speedy recovery.
Now to the football, once again another excellent turn out, allowing for two six aside matches being played.
In the match nearest the bar area, selected by Keef for some reason, Rory gave the Reds an early lead with a well placed shot past the Cab in the Blacks goal.
1-0 to Reds
Indeed, the first time the Cab touched the ball was to pick it out of the net.
The second session started with Rick for the Blacks hitting the post with a cracking shot, Keef in the Reds goal was relieved to see the ball bounce safely back into play.
Rick, ever dangerous duringvthis period could easily have scored a hat trick, hitting the post, shooting wide and Keef making several excellent saves..
These misses were followed by Ken increasing the Reds lead, this after some intricate 3 touch football, slicing through the Blacks defence like a hot knife through butter.
2-0 to Reds.
At the start of the third session the Owl scored a typical individual goal to increase the Reds lead.
3-0.
This was followed by Ken scoring his second goal with a superb flick, giving the Reds what looked like an unassailable 4-0 lead.
Rick(Blacks) then eventually got some reward for his efforts, intercepting a loose pass to score with ease.
4-1 Reds.
Just before the break, Klaus feeling the effects of the morning heat was forced to come off and rest for a while, taking onboard some much needed water.
The last session began in extraordinary fashion, with Peter G claiming that his trainers had ‘exploded’ in the morning heat, or as more than likely happened, it being that they were old and worn out and falling apart. .
This left him no alternative but to play in his stocking feet, fortunately with no tackling in walking football he got away playing in this manner.
Rory now in goal for the Reds made a fine save by coming out of his goal and blocking a blaster from Rick.
Peter G, then unbelievably in his stocking feet, hit a terrific low shot from some 20 yards out, which Rory only saw when the ball was in the back of the Reds net.
4-2 Reds.
The Cab urging his team on then made a superb pass to Bambi to slot past Rory going in off the post.
4-3 to Reds
In the closing minutes, Rory went close to increasing the Reds lead, however thwarted by Klaus tipping his shot over the crossbar.
This was followed by Sean, now taking over the keeper duties for the Reds being well beaten when yet another shot from Rick hit the post with the keeper well beaten and relieved to see the ball rolling to safety.
Peter G then equalised with another stocking feet blaster, which Sean could only parry into his own net.
Unbelievably, from 4-0 down the Blacks were now deservedly level.
4-4.
In a frantic finale with both teams going for the winner, Rory made a defence splitting pass to Owl for him to score.
5-4 Reds.
In added time Sean in the Reds goal made a terrific save from Peter G to prevent an equaliser.
Old stager Ken, then as his want, scored one of his typical poachers goals, being left once again unmarked to put the result beyond doubt.
6-4 to Reds.
In all honesty the Blacks didn’t deserve to lose, the match however m played in a friendly and sporting manner.
Although there was some dubious running off the ball, the unofficial referee claims this was done to allow the game to flow!
FT: Reds 6 v Blacks 4.
For the Reds, Rory and Sean played well, as did Rick, Cab and ‘G’ man for the Blacks.
Everyone then retired to the bar to celebrate Rick’s 67th birthday, or was it 69th!
The birthday boy, kindly making a generous donation to the whip for the drinks to flow more readily.
Match 2 Report by Dave
In the other game, the reds ran out 11-3 winners…. oddly the blacks played the better football and had offsides been in the rules, the blacks would have won 3-1….
All 4 of the blacks outfield players spent more time in in the reds half than the reds themselves, hence the score….
Yours truly was in goal for the blacks, also playing centre back and half back…. carrying any injury btw….
Let’s hope for a better result tomorrow…. As for the scorers… no comment…
A comment we all concur with…. Get well soon Breck…
