Time until the next game at Benalmadena Polideportivo

Match report by Geoff

BLACKS ….3 v REDS ….2

Yet another damp and miserable start to the match on Monday at the Polideportivo, albeit the sun did break through eventually to cheer everyone up.

On what should have been a 10 aside match, the late withdrawal of Bambi, due to his car catching Covid  and spluttering to a halt enroute to the Poli, meant the Blacks playing with a man short which most definitely for a quieter match in his absence.

Almost immediately, despite being a player short Gary R put the Blacks one up with a blistering shot.

This lead was cancelled out by Nigel for the Reds scoring with a fine low drive and then almost immediately taking the lead from a quickly taken free kick by him making a short pass for Rory to slot home. 2-1 to Reds.

Audrey in goal for the Reds then made a terrific save by somehow scrambling across her goal to tip a blaster from Keef around the post.

The Blacks nevertheless were holding their own, despite being a man down, when just before the first water break Rory nearly extended the Reds lead only for Steve Mac in goal to making an excellent save.

Funnily enough at the end of the match on the balcony bar afterwards, our infamous wordsmith allegedly couldn’t remember scoring when heard asking who had scored the goals for his team or was it perhaps him looking for plaudits.

So much for it allegedly being the author of this report being the forgetful one as previously mentioned in his reports.

Is it no wonder you have to go to the loo for 30 minutes when reading his superb Jackanory reports as opposed to this short but factual one.

The second session began with Alan in goal for the Blacks tipping a shot from Keef over the crossbar only for the striker a few a minutes later to gain revenue by hitting a low drive him. 2-2.

Then just before the second break Gary R who auditioned for this years Strictly Show put his ballroom dancing expertise to good use by performing a superb swivel to score giving the Blacks a surprise 3-2 at the break.

The last two session were goalless with Pete the Pirate from Penzance going closest for the Reds with the ball bouncing back off the post and Paul ‘B’ in the Blacks goal making three good saves to  keep the Reds at bay.

FT 3-2 to the Blacks.

Keef was in outstanding form for the Blacks ably supported by his Strictly partner Gary with Nigel and Rory the pick of the Reds.

The saying every cloud has a silver lining was particularly appropriate in this match with the nine man Blacks team most certainly not missing a certain person.

Sorry Bambi couldn’t resist it.
