Match Report – WFS Benahavis v Malaga
Match Reporter Popeye
Tonight saw two friendly matches between Benahavis and Malaga at the Benahavis Camp Nou. Two clubs fighting for supremacy in the upcoming league who were looking to gain an advantage on their rival pre-season. Honours go to Malaga with a narrow win v Atletico Benahavis and a resounding victory v Sporting Benahavis.
Atletico  5 v 6 Malaga A
Both sides lined up with new signings… Atletico had paid a record fee of €5 to acquire the services of Andrew together with Rossi on a Bosman while Malaga had broken their transfer record and paid €20 to bring in Pablo…😉
However, it was Athletico who took control early on, playing some great 2/3touch football and creating openings for Andrew and Rossi. Andrew took full advantage with clever feints and movement to establish a 2-0 lead. ⚽⚽️ The second of which was Messiesque as he gave the keeper the eyes and finished with aplomb in the opposite corner.
Not to be denied, Malaga fought hard and although under the cosh at this point pulled one back with a neat finish from Pablo. ⚽️ 2-1 Atletico.
As agreed beforehand, 10 minute water breaks came into play which also gave both teams the opportunity to make substitutions on account of the hot and humid conditions….
On the re-start, Club Captain, Legend and Leader, Rob Fitz slotted one home with a great finish to make it 3-1 at half time to Atletico.
In the second half, disaster befell Atletico 😱 Despite holding a comfortable lead and seemingly in control  of the game, Duncan was inexplicably sin binned for what most neutral observers agreed was a good challenge. Now down to 6 and needing to reorganise quickly, Atletico succumbed to a well taken goal and his second on the night by Pablo ⚽
The tide had turned , the sharks were in the water and Malaga smelt blood. El Tel fastened onto a mistake in the Atletico defence to make it 3-3 ⚽
No sooner than Big Dunc had returned, Fitz was sent off and we were back down to 6. 🤷‍♂️ Atletico were up against it now, but sterling defending from PJ, James, and Gary together with some smart reflex saves from Nick,  kept Malaga at bay until Johnson for Malaga made it 4-3 on the night to Malaga ⚽
So, half time Atletico  3-4 Malaga A
With Atletico now back to a full complement, the game became more even and the big crowd who came to enjoy the game were in full voice. The away supporters were vociferous in their support of their team but were silenced however when PJ  who rarely ventures beyond the half way line, rifled one in from 25 yards low and hard into the corner to make it 4-4 on the night ⚽
All to play for then as both teams entered the final water break with 10 minutes play left.
Malaga A finished the stronger as the diminutive Pablo got his hatrick ⚽️ and Victor ⚽️ scored off a deflection to take the game out of reach of Atletico before Rob Fitz ⚽️ got his second on the night to bring the match to a close with the final score Atletico 5 Malaga A 6

Match Report
Sporting Benahavis 1 v Malaga B 5
Reporter Popeye
This match opened up like two cage fighters eyeing one another up , lots of sparring but little goal mouth action, although both teams were comfortable on the ball and knocked it about well. But at the first water break it was still 0-0.
Sporting came out strong, renewed by their Lucozade and Charles was very unlucky on two occasions as he hits the bar with one effort from Tony’s quickly taken free kick only to the hit the post moments later from a great through ball by Chris 🤷‍♂️
Emboldened by their good fortune, Malaga B pressed forward and were rewarded when Carlos ⚽️ fired one in following a free kick from 20 yards.
Not to be outdone, Sporting battled bravely and Neville The Hammer ⚽️ put one away from distance following a lovely ball from Charles.
Half time 1-1
Sporting had their chances in the second half Tony hit one from long range just over, Neville went close with a couple more. Chris, Adrian, Martyn all played their part but just couldn’t find a way through. Michael  was everywhere…like an older version of Popeye 😉
Malaga B then brought on the BIG GUN aka Gray Salt in an effort to flatten the Atletico defensive line or should I say demolish it..🤔😂
However, surprisingly for such a big man, his touch was good and played nice balls to feet. Despite missing one penalty as he crashed one against the bar, he made amends with a second penalty ⚽️… Malaga B through their no24 (Abbott?) bags a second half hatrick ⚽⚽⚽️ to make the final score…. Sporting 1 v Malaga B 5

APRES FOOTBALL
Both teams enjoyed the hospitality of Amanda’s Bar post match where delicious food had been laid on. Much post match banter ensued with both clubs looking forward to the new season and locking horns again.
