Walking Football Benalmadena. We now have a new home for Walking Football in Benalmadena on Monday mornings from 10.30am!
The Polideportivo Benalmadena Pueblo was being resurfaced when I did a recce for pitches back in the Autumn, which is why we ended up at El Retamar.
However, the El Retamar pitch is often booked out for hockey tournaments, so we decided to try the new pitch at the Pueblo. And we all felt it was fantastic.
The surface, being brand new was excellent. The artificial grass was quite long which is good for us as it slows the ball down a bit. One of the issues at El Retamar was that they water the pitch beforehand, which really makes the ball zip and so difficult to control for some of our older players.
I was quite excited to see that they had a variety of lightweight goals we could use. So we played with the hockey-sized goals this Monday, but they also have small goals so we can play without a keeper if we need to.
There was an initial group of 12 who turned up this Monday, but hopefully we will start to get better numbers now that we are playing during the day and once people start to see how nice the pitch is.
One thing which was very much appreciated, was that the bar had a sunny aspect after the game and we were brought cheese and olives to go with our beers, something that had been lacking at El Retamar, where it was a struggle to even get the bar open sometimes!
So if you are free on Monday mornings at 10.30am, then come along and see the new pitch for yourself!
