I took a trip to Gibraltar last week to meet up with the Walking Football team there, led by Gerry Britto.
Gibraltar play at The Victoria Stadium every Wednesday and Friday on the 5-a-side pitches. They are unusual in that they do not allow anyone under 60 to join. This means that their average age is a lot older than most other walking football clubs. Most of them are in their late 60s and 70s, with their oldest player at 79!
We have therefore arranged a match for Wednesday 7th March and Walking Football Spain are looking to take two teams there, consisting of 6 players each. Brian Gregory will captain one team and Jim King will captain the other team. We will ideally field our Over 65s only (perhaps one or two at 63) as this will be a great opportunity for the older members of our squad to play in a competitive game, without the younger and fitter members running the show!
Confirmed players so far are Brian Gregory, Jim King, Steve Chapman, Ronald Young, Ronald Waugh, Fred Harding, Brian Russell, Steve Whitehouse and Phillip Cross.
